Is there a torrent version?
There shouldn't be anything official, but if you just don't want to DL from MS, then here, this is what I downloaded a couple weeks back (Win 10).
Edit-01:
qBittorrent seems to only want to connect to one of the public trackers I added. Manually select udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce as needed.
Edit-02:
PM me if you want this re-seeded. qB seems to use only one tracker at a time? Rotate through the trackers till you connect? Or in the PM send a tracker you like and I"ll add it.

I have both downloads: the 64 bit is 5GB!
Are they time-limited unless you have a licence already?
Not worth going through the tedious installation if you then have to pay MS to use it.

My understanding (just from other web posts) is it will run okay but without a license you don't get updates.

There are a few cosmetic things with non-activated Windows 10 installs as well. You’ll get the not activated warning in the lower right and some things like desktop personalization stop working, and you’ll get random nag screens.
Since the OP is using this just for a class, not activating should be fine. But no one should think about running an outdated non-activated Windows 10 install, even in a VM, for anything serious... that’s just asking for trouble.

Update:-
Thunderbird runs OK.
The big snag remaining is the OS is set for hdmi sound and cannot be changed without a licence key.

There's ways around it... though it means more work than activation - for example

Interesting article Chris: shame all the tricks he mentions are not ones I care about

.
It is against my principles to give MS any money, especially for an OS I don't really want.
