I'm wondering how necessary it is at this point. Also how much system resources it uses when running in a browser.

Mrs. HoaS still uses it for FaceBook games but not for long:

That's more than a little scary. Aren't Firefox and Chrome supposed to drop it altogether in the near future?

adobe is dropping at the end of the year. I assume firefox and chrome will stop enabling by default before that. I think its already limited in chrome, and possibly firefox.

Google Chrome disables flash by default. It can be enabled temporarily on a web page or a web page can be white listed in settings.

I don't have it installed. Not for some time now and haven't missed it. I don't think there's much call for it any more and if a web site still requires it they need to do some serious upgrading.

Bump .. Gave an old computer to my sister when her laptop died. It's an old Dell dual-Pentium desktop. Anyway, It had XP on it, but now has mx-linux 19.2. I'm just waiting for her to call me and ask about face-book games. Don't know if they can be got going, or not? I didn't install flash or Java. I've also read that flash is being retired. Is that because html 5 can do everything flash can?

As I understand Flash has been declining for years as a result of security problems and is being depreciated by its owner Adobe.

I haven't had it installed for years.
Beyond that, I don't think you can use it with the Brave browser?

Funny you should mention. I've been updating adobe-flashplugin for years, just decided to uninstall. No ill effects.
I use Chrome for all my fun web browsing & Waterfox for all my serious sites. I don't think anything hasn't worked so far. Does Chrome handle its own flash independent of the installed version?

The nadir of flash technology is a little before my time to be honest. Only vague recollections of security updates. I know there has been some concern about the difficulty of archiving flash content due to its embedded runtime and proprietary status.

Go to adobe's flash test page in Chrome and see what happens...
