If you mean the button on the panel, it can be added as a widget "Lock/Lockout". It is not there by default.

dolphin_oracle wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 7:48 pm well certainly a problem, but make sure you create a @ subvolume and use as target for root.
Please look at the screenshot - didn't I make it right? I let installer to do BTRFS format, and create subvolumes. Choosing "create subvolume" from context menu.
looks ok but your minstall.log did not have the creation of @ subvolume I don't think.

hmmm, might be assuming that subvolumes are all on the same partition. I did this with one btrfs partition instead of two.

workaround for now would be to install with just root, and add the /home after installation. but will look into the situation.
@dolphin_oracle, even configuration you suggested, does not work. After reboot it ends with busybox - looks like installer was silently ignoring caveats of this config (encryption + btrfs + subvolumes + containers prepared before), and did not try to setup it properly.

I'm starting to feel frustrated, for tons of my needlessly wasted time (not just yesterday night - I traded my sleep for trying, and now not feeling well).
Because it seems to me, all this was due to "forgetting" to let user know "what you want from the installer is not supported, do not try it, it will not work".
Installer should definitely be restricted to allow user do only the supported actions.

I know you have much work and are doing complicated things, but aren't these basic requirements of properly written software?

Sorry again for somewhat bitter tone, but we should have avoided this...

Of course it must be said: thank you for your work and for bringing to us this "nicely put together distro".
I know this is a free software and I feel grateful for your work, but please, be respectful also to your users and prevent them from wasting their time.

And I want to stress: please do not abandon possibility to use custom pre-prepared volumes in the installer. It is a very important feature to make this distro useful even for audience with more specific needs (or wants)

some times this stuff takes a minute to fix. there are a lot of timezones between dev team members working on the installer.

the case of two btrfs partitions not working is due to a faulty bit of logic, not that is isn't supposed to be supported. but the next version of the installer will support. We have been testing changes yesterday. I have successfully installed on both single btrfs partition and dual btrfs partitions. the problem has nothing to do with encryption, but with subvolume creation.

Thanks for the report.

I think you can stop trying until we update the installer.

thanks but not that

in every other iteration of plasma when you right click on the empty desktop, it brings up a context menu with heading like change background / appearance and so forth - it also usually has a shut down button at the bottom of the menu but it doesn't this time ...
not a big deal - more a curiosity

Hello @junoluna
Are you referring to the right click on empty desktop and has * < Leave...* Does changing from desktop to folder view and back again make any changes to menu - example as logging out/in or reboot does for other things ? changing from desktop to folder view and back again may help.
Regards

Not being that familiar with KDE, I'm not sure if this is a bug, or something I have done.

In RC2 installed on my hp, when I type in bash I get tabs IN the line, so it looks like this, but there are spaces no tabs?

Code: Select all

this	is	a	long line in bash
The cursor literally jumps to 'a tab stop' when I press the space bar. My VM's dont do this, and I have looked but not found any setting that would do this.

What have I done ?
