MX 17/18 Repository: The qBittorrent Thread

Posted: Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:39 pm

We now have the latest qBittorrent 4.0.2 in our test repository. It's built against libraries already available in standard MX 17, making it simple to move to main after testing. This is a major update from our last 3.3.16 version; the large number of changes and fixes can be seen here. It is not feasible to build it on a MX 15/16 platform any longer without a major update of Qt 5 to at least 5.5.1, so that's very probably not going to happen, so future updates will be restricted to MX 17.

This is probably the best Linux Bittorrent program available, and we'd appreciate feedback from testers so we can move it to main.

Installed fine on MX-17 B3, insertion in menu good, launches, fires up correctly when a torrent is clicked, downloading proceeding now.

The latest release, 4.0.4, is now in the test repository. It is built against an updated libtorrent-rasterbar 1.1.5, which is also in the test repo and will be pulled in automatically. Changes can be viewed here.

We now have qBittorrent 4.1.0 in the test repo. This is a major new release, so check out the release notes here and let us know how it's working.

4.1.0 installed and running OK. Have not yet checked any of the fixes or improvements, will leave it running (as usual) and see if any glitches show up. The number
of users downloading has dropped off, as might be expected. 64 bit MX continues to be the most popular and there's an occasional burst of activity downloading antiX.

We now have the latest 4.1.1 release in the test repo, along with the updated libtorrent-rasterbar-1.1.7+yada-yada-yada that was recommended. Please let us know how it's installing and working if you try it out. Thanks!

Have 4.1.1 installed and apparently working, but is telling me it cannot find the default browser. Cannot access qBittorrents website or the documentation. All this is OK on the
older machine running the earlier version, so am digging to find a problem - probably something caused by me. Will report results.

Fixed, hopefully. Needed to re-declare Pale Moon as the default browser. Other programs were using Pale Moon OK. Updated QBittorrent 4.1.1 was using PaleMoon too for its main function of providing MX as a seeder, but the About tab was looking for Firefox - which is not even installed on this machine. Will update the older desktop and see
what happens.

network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet=false
when clik on magnet or torrent link, select qBittorrent or any torrent client and check box always open with.

The latest 4.1.3 release is now available in our test repository. Changes include:

Preselect name without extension when renaming files
Allow setting seq & first/last from context menu without metadata
Show “N/A” if there is no scrape
Save option about tracker favicons under correct key
When file data are unreachable pause torrent and show “Missing Files” status
Don’t disable DHT when using force proxy
Correctly save torrent queue position/state/priority changes in fastresume
Fix icon height/width ratio
Fix values sorted wrong in “Last Activity” column
Replace png icons with svg
Various Web UI improvements
Refactor in searchjob to always color visited entries
Set “enter” as shortcut to download the selected torrents in search job
Add regex option in the search filter’s context menu
Fix GUI scaling issue on Linux

This version is built against the libtorrent-rasterbar in the main MX 17 repo, so would be an easy move to main if it tests well.

Have just attempted the update to 4.1.3 but it has not installed. Will try again later in the day when the current batch of torrent downloaders have ceased (Americas gone to bed) and will power down then start again.

Edit: 4 hours Later. Not a success! Have installed 4.1.3 OK but now my whole torrent system is deceased. Blank entries on the 'howgoesit' page, no sign of uploads or downloads and when I tried to reload the MX-17 64 bit torrent got a pop-up to say say that it was already working and seeding. So am abandoning it for now and will try again this evening.

OK, that version was built against the libtorrent-rasterbar9 already in the main MX 17 repo, so we don't don't have to move anything else to main to support it. I'll ask Tim to move it.

Edit: some users have reported problems with 4.1.3 in main when using the 1.1.7 libtorrent-rasterbar9 from the test repositories, but switching to the libtorrent-raster9 1.1.4 in the main repository seems to be a fix.

Maybe I can adjust the dependencies so it will automatically use the version in main.

After qBittorrent was updated to 4.1.3, all the previously listed torrents disappeared. The files are still in the folders. I'm also unable to start new torrents. When I add a link manually, it doesn't appear in the list.

I'm having problems with this package as well. The search tab functions and the window populates, but when the download button is clicked on, the download window pops up and it hangs on retrieving the metadata. Nothing populates in the Transfer tab. If I click on another source in the search tab, another window will pop saying, "Magnet link is already queued for processing", but nothing ever happens in the Transfer tab.

I don't think this has anything to do with MX, but more with the package itself. I've been having problems with the package on a Mac OSX as well.

@ smilliken I see that others on the qbittorrent forum are reporting problems with version 4.1. Perhaps I have been lucky ? there were a couple of issues when running 4.1.3 on my old desktop. I tried to move the whole torrent system onto another hard drive (that computer has 3 hd's) but could
not remove all of it. Seems that uninstalling qbit.. does not clear some of the configuration and I could not find the files. So abandoned
torrents on that machine and stoked up the old Dell that already 4.0.3 installed. Upgraded to 4.1.3 and as reported earlier, there have been no
problems.

Do you still have the 4.1.2 deb in /var/cache/apt/archives? It's a single deb, so you should be to downgrade to it with gdebi. If that restores the functionality, we'll go back to 4.1.2.

If you don't have it, I still have debs here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=17ID_K ... 9H6Jwy8cXZ

Will check mine again when I get off this machine and back on the Galago. I downloaded some stuff with the current version and it was seeding those downloads fine. Doing a search and downloading something from the list doesn't cause anything to hang. Will check it again to be sure. Meanwhile I'll see what happens on this Lenovo G560 laptop. Will come back and update this post.

Edit: Installed on Lenovo and the downloading & uploading of torrents is working fine. I installed search engines and searched for torrents. Selected 3 and they downloaded ok. I am now seeding those 3 torrents without issue. All seems to be working fine. Exited, reopened QB and it picked up torrents and resumed downloading. Finished torrents and they are good files / downloads.

Can confirm the above. Just upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.1.3. Loading a magnet link brought up the add torrent dialogue, but never loaded the torrent options. Adding it anyway, the torrent began to download but remained forever in the "Moving" state.

Purging 4.1.3 and libtorrent-rasterbar9 and then reinstalling 4.1.3 has solved this for me.

I wonder if it could be related to the version of libtorrent-rasterbar9 in use.

Can those with issues check the version in Synaptic or "apt policy libtorrent-rasterbar9"?

We do have a newer version in testing that you can try if 1.14 blah blah is the one you're using.

Code: Select all

I think it is. I had libtorrent-rasterbar9 1.1.7+git20180527.6ec6c1b340+patched-configure1-1~mx17+1 installed. I uninstalled that along with qBittorent using the MX Package Installer. I built some earlier versions against the test repo libtorrent, but qBittorrent 4.1.3 against the MX main repo 1.1.4 version. Maybe it's happiest with the version it was built against, or the test repo libtorrent is buggy.

Does bwhawks fix work for anyone else?

Confirming what happened here. After problems with qbittorrent 4.1.3 on my usual desktop, I upgraded the older 4.0.3 version to 4.1.3 on another desktop and a check shows that it has rasterbar9 1.1.4 installed. All running perfectly with 8 torrents covering MX-17.1 and AntiX 17.2.

Yes, i think you've identified the problem. I had upgraded past versions from the test repo (4.1.1 in particular which pulled in libtorrent 1.1.7). I don't think there's anything wrong with the test repo libtorrent (qBittorrent 4.1.1 - 4.1.2 worked perfectly). Rather, it would suggest the latest version being built against an older libtorrent version was the cause for the instability.

Reverting to libtorrent 1.1.4 has resolved the issues for me.

We now have qBittorrent 4.1.5 in testing, just to make sure it doesn't break anything before we move it to main.

Please note that it was built against the libtorrent-rasterbar 1.1.4+git in main, not the version in testing. Please do not upgrade libtorrent-rasterbar from testing, as this might lead to unpredictable results, as can be seen earlier in this thread. I don't think that installing it from the test repo with MX Package Installer will upgrade libtorrent.

After this build is moved to main, I will upgrade libtorrent to 1.1.11 in the test repo and rebuild another version of 4.1.5 against it for test, for those that want the bleeding edge.

Changes are in the news link.

It is a non-starter, Steve...tried installing twice and it is NG...the app appears to be running but the gui shows no torrents after they are loaded.

When I tried to load the torrents again, the app informed me "that particular torrent was already running"...though I could not see them displayed in the gui.

Uninstalled and autoremoved the libtorrent-rasterbar9 thingy...

Then went back to the current version 4.1.4-0.1~mx17+1 and it worked fine.

EDIT: running fresh install of MX-18 and 4.20.0-antix.1-amd64-smp kernel

Confirmed, but the torrents don't get added to the list. If I add the same torrent again, qbittorrent confirms the previous .torrent has been added but the list is still empty.

qBittorrent 4.1.6 is now in the test repo. This was again built against the 1.1.4 libtorrent-rasterbar in the main MX repo, though libtorrent was also updated at the same time to 1.1.11 in the test repository.

The newly released qBittorrent 4.1.7 had landed in our test repo. It failed to build against the libtorrent-rasterbar 1.1.4+git in our main repo, but succeeded with the new libtorrent-rasterbar 1.1.13 we have in the test repo, so expect it to also pull in a new libtorrent-rasterbar9 if you upgrade.

Changes/bugfixes are listed here.

The current qBittorrent version in stable is 4.1.4 - this is a version from November 19th 2018.

Guys, can we please update to a new version in the Stable repo?

Thanks!

You can see that some people reported issues with migrating to a newer version in the test repo, so we're keeping the choice open of the latest version from the test repo or the older 4.14 version. You can install the test repo version with a few mouse clicks in MXPI!

That's correct. I was referring to the one in the stable repository which is kinda outdated.
Thanks!

The qibittorent in test is not installable.

There is a dependency issue with libtorrent-raster9

libtorrent-raster9 is needed but isn't listed in depends. I tried a pbuilder on my laptop with the modified control file but it wouldn't go. After I get some V-Day stuff done, I'll take another look - mike

For some reason, the 1.1.11 mx 17/18 packages were removed, but not the MX 15. Anyway, maybe Tim still has them, and could put them in main if newer versions preclude them in the test repo.
