I then tested it with another panel (nobattery-tint2rc) that defaults to the bottom where the tool-tip shows up below the panel and it worked there also. You don't have to change any icon size.

Settings manager>Tint2 manager>Config>'select the panel your using' and click on the icon in the upper left corner (Edit the selected theme). From there go to Panel>Window manager interaction>Maximized windows and change that selection to Fill the screen.
But that's not a good solution for the default panel, because it means you've got the maximized window below the panel. So if there's a status bar or another content on the bottom of the maximized window you won't see it...
That depends on your panel options. I have mine set to Top which keeps the panel on top of any window that tries to overlay it.

The other setting you can choose (that keeps the tool-tip above the panel) is Match the hidden panel size.

Ok. Open Featherpad, maximize it and tell me is it comfortable now to use the search-bar behind the panel?
Maybe for you it is better to make the search-bar in maximized Featherpad unusable to make visible the descriptions of the tray icons, you already know what they stand for, but I'm afraid it is rather not the case for an average user. That's why I think it could work for you, but it is not good as the default setting for the default panel.

You can set your Panel layer to 'Bottom' so that any maximized window covers the panel while keeping the 'Maximized windows' option at either Match the hidden panel or Fill the screen. That way the tool-tips window for the Network and Speaker icons still show on top of the panel and not below it.

Your solution is like treating a small annoyance with a greater one. Giving up a normal panel with windows opening above, because you cannot see the description of the volume icon... Sorry, I can't understand your point of view.

All the other panel icons (App finder, taskbar icons, Synaptic, time/cal, exit options) tool-tips pop up, why not also the network and speaker.

We're packaging Beta 2 right now, so let's reopen this topic in the new feedback thread. I haven't even had a chance to look at the problem.

Changing the icon size to:

Code: Select all

systray_icon_size = 36
solves the problem without implying that the part of the maximized window is hidden behind the panel or the opposite. But then this icons seem to me really large, bigger than the launchers on the left side.

Ok. As I said before it could be easily solved by enlarging icons to 36. Then perhaps the launchers icons should be also a little bit enlarged to preserve the natural look and feel of the panel.

Thanks.

The Beta 2 is now in process, so I will close this thread. Thanks to all.
