Back to 8.12, the only Windows program I really need and use on a daily basis, jpg-illuminator (image editing), no longer works.
The fact that other programs still work is irrelevant, I have all Linux programs as "replacements" for them
Too bad
This is not due to Wine, but to the program

Try using mx package installer to search for, select and install winehq-staging to upgrade to the latest wine-staging. winehq-staging will drag along with it everything you need. - mike

Wine is already installed (version 8.12-1mx23+1)
I tried upgrading it via MXPI -> MX Test Repo tab, this time selecting only winehq-staging as you suggested, but
Code: Select all
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
winehq-staging : Depends: wine-staging (= 9.1-1mx23+1)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
So I installed wine in my test VM (no wine up to now) and tried upgrading it... same result.
I even tried switching repos.

@mmikeinsantarosa
How do I get 9.1 from MXPI? I ask because I have two machines with wine installed. The desktop had 9.x and the laptop had 8.12. Discovered that somehow the desktop had an extra repo of winehq. So I rolled it back.
The desktop was failing with a favorite dotnet app while the laptop was okay. But it turned out to be a prefix issue. The app needed the wine 32 prefix on the desktop while it worked with the wine 64 prefix on the laptop.
On further reading 9.1 has an experimental feature to allow 32 bit apps to run on wine 64.
Answering my own question, the latest I see is 8.12 in MXPI in enabled repos and 9.1 in the test repo. Can I assume 9.1 in the test repo matches the same in the winehq-bookworm.sources repo I removed?

@skallal
All of our latest wine-staging was built with the
source from bookworm version 9.1.
@markol
I'm not sure why the depends isn't showing up. I just installed winehq-staging-9.1 from mxpi test in MX19, 21 & 23 VMs without any issues. Check your mx repo manager and post what set your system is connected to. The packages are all in the repos, so something is amiss on you rend.- mike

@mmikeinsantarosa I forgot to report back regarding my issues with the latest wine(s) :)
I finally got 9.5 working by purging and completely removing the .wine folder. I then installed it directly from the Test Repo (installing from the favourites + upgrade somehow does not work on my 2 machines)
Upgrade to 9.6 works without problems.
Thank you again for all your work!

Runs smoothly for me, but, pardon me, my mistake, is not from the MX test repo but directly from dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ . This is one of my active foreign repos and was therefore updated as soon as it was released. It was the same with the two previous versions.
I can't say to what extent this makes a difference now, but it runs without any problems.
I cannot make any statements about improvements for any games, for me it mainly concerns applications in the area of image processing and helpful tools for which I have not found any Linux alternatives.

I don't know to what extent this is comparable. Since winehq is in my package sources, I have had the update to 9.13 for a few days now.
And it runs with my applications (mainly image processing, no games) like the predecessors, without any problems.

Maybe you could post instructions for other users as an alternative to get wine-staging. I've been burned enough times where newer versions of wine disabled some of my older programs. I'll continue to use our base repos for wine. - mike

However, I only use the “stable branch”, the developer versions are of no interest to me.
Wine 9.13 has been released as stable on jul 14th and since winehq is one of my package sources, I got the update there as well.
The installation of Wine is explained well enough on the download page, no problem for deepl to translate it for me.

All the repos are affected. I guess we need to wait for a fix.
Edit : If you didn't know already, it only affects the AHS repos, no issue on my regular install (I have several).

My default is it.mxrepo.com, but I'd also tried mxrepo.com and nl.mxrepo.com
There is no wine-staging directory at

I'm sure this will be resolved soon (as always). Just letting the crew know.
