This is set at one row; set at two rows gives workspaces switcher a big area.

Here are my MX21 test dwm & i3wm scrots (they share the same user space with xfce4.) The environment is totally nonstandard. Major components include:
-- rofi
-- j4-dmenu-desktop
-- dmenu
-- yad/zenity
-- st (terminal)
-- i3wm (not gaps)
-- dwm
-- xcompmgr (compositor)
...etc.

I'm running systemd on MX21 in order to keep all my yad commands equivalent across multiple distros.

Hmm postimage works weirdly. You can open it as image nonetheless. This is the most crisp image. I don't upload images of greater quality than required in our forums. So clicking on it to get a crisper image won't be possible as there's none

MX beta 2 with: bspwm+polybar+polywinds.sh as dockbar+ntfd weather module+urxvt terminal everywhere+ncmcpp with ueberzug as a client for mpd+cmatrix+tmux+nnn tui-preview plugin+pokemonsay+notification by dunst and the images is a custom script which runs whener mpd changes song+conky geeky tower+neofetch with ueberzug backend+hollywood.

fluxbox style ostrich, idesk desktop icons,
xfce panel intelligent hiding has eyes and [always on top] window Menu arrow (the equivalent of xfce middle-click plus +more*. The fluxbox middle-click is fluxbox window menu client list.) This small panel is a placement anchor in the middle of the screen for the first opened windows [by size] will anchor on this panel.

xfce panelbottom, eyes, spacer, Places plug-in has recent documents and trash, docklike taskbar pin firefox, pin file manager, pin application finder, next is any running applications not pinned and spacer, Window Switcher plug-in drag and drop windows to two desktops. If you like larger window switcher then it can be made a separate larger, hiding panel fit.
continue bottom
fluxbox toolbar arrow cycles windows, system tray, clock, arrow rootmenu.

live preview and launchers with
Docklike Taskbar in place of fluxbox taskbar iconbar.
[pinned custom-toolbox opportunities (?) a start menu unlike rootmenu ]

new moon, so wmmoonclock is turned off, because it shows a black box today.
MX-21 xfce Desktop is

xfce Panelbottom, eyes, spacer, Whisker Menu plug-in, Places plug-in has recent files and Trash, docklike-plug-in taskbar pin firefox, pin file manager, pin Application Finder, next is any running applications not pinned and spacer, Window Menu plug-in arrow, Window Switcher plug-in drag and drop windows to two desktops, system tray [arrow to Hidden], volume plug-in, clock, Separator, Applications Menu plug-in.

Whisker menu has recent and favorite applications.
Application Finder has Commands History.
Applications Menu is default menu.
Applications is set to show with right-click on Desktop.
Places plug-in shows recent files.

Window Menu plug-in is the equivalent of middle-click in Desktop plus +more*:
with a right-click on a window icon in the Window Menu list there is a Action context menu windowmenu.
This is not available with the middle-click in Desktop.
The right-click on an item shows /supports /offers actions that are sometimes not shown in the docklike plug-in right-click menu;
Window Menu plug-in is a good companion to docklike taskbar because of this feature.

Large images take up large areas of the post and thread space, are distracting and impede the flow of the thread. You can post the link to the full image without the [img] tags. Animated images, such as gifs, shall be no larger than 120 x 120 pixels.

Simple Bulb Glow by @Auro Kumar Sahoo is a favourite of mine. It was between it and Honesty by @Freja as the choice for the default wallpaper. They are such contrasts, one so bare, black and witty, and the other so lush, colourful and nature-based, yet I love both. We have really creative members here.

Here is my screenshot of my MX21 KDE Beta1 real metal install.

Due to real life, I did not even test the RC and Final releases (of any DE or WM), let alone install any of them.

The Start button was resized and recoloured from an off-kilter 3d rendition of the MX logo made by @Auro Kumar Sahoo . Some of you may recognise the 3d logo which he eventually incorporated into the pyramids wallpapers he made for MX18.

Good evening Mx'ers.

This is one of several designs I made, playing with tint2. This week I became new member of this amazing community, the one and only funny Linux Group. I found many tricks, I have studied many things and I can say that MX-linux is a kind of flashback, when (micro) computers were fun. Also lets say that MXMLGA* (is not the roman number 1950) This is MX-21 2nd Millenium Year 21 of the X age

Here we go.

Finally installed MX21 XFCE.

Compiz was a little wonky initially (it was not saving/disabling the settings I enabled), but it seems to have settled down somewhat after a cautious one-by-one enabling of most of the options I use. Still holding off enabling skydome and cube caps for the moment. Let's see if it continues to behave itself.

The weather conky is adapted from @siamhie 's post here: viewtopic.php?p=669796#p669796

I'd never used a wttr.in conky before (I usually use openweathermap/accuweather-based conkies) and your post finally spurred me to check it out. Thanks! Had to cut the "Weather" line into 2 for longer weather conditions so it wouldn't stretch the conky across the screen. I also tested a conky with wttr.in's "weather report" output but I wasn't keen on the ascii art for the weather condition.

Music conky uses the mediaplayer.py script that comes with MX's preinstalled conkies, the style is adapted from the manyroads/mysysinfo conkies.

Glad you like it. I lurk in the conky sub Reddit and came across this reply from moongya on setting up wttr.in in conky.

Where do you get your Compiz themes? Last time I took a stroll down Compiz memory lane I was appalled that all the emerald themes were stuck in 2005 high gloss mode with hardly any newer than 2012 or so..

1. This is the one I use most of the time : https://github.com/jpwchang/EmeraldEdge

2. Otherwise you can search pling.com under the 'beryl/emerald theme' and 'compiz theme' categories.

3. Search greybird theme's own subfolder, you'll find it comes with an emerald version of its window decoration.

4. The usual pack of themes that comes with emerald manager does have a numix theme.

5. I've found a few others that are very usable, but I'm not at my pc right now. But I can't recall if they were from the usual pack, or from elsewhere. Whatever I like, I save a backup on my data partition so I can reuse them in another distro or new release on mx.

Nope, that's not what I mean. I'm referring to your exact conky you shared in the MXFB screenshots. There was no maximum width set in your conky. And here's the current weather condition for my area yesterday, as displayed by my modified conky:

It's so long that if I had not edited the conky config to split the weather condition into 2 lines, and added a max width, the conky would stretch to become a long horizontal rectangle as long as the weather condition text.

I adapted a conky to show just the current weather condition with ascii art, like so:

where
T=suppress some terminal output (weird characters show up in the conky if not suppressed),
0=just show current weather,
Q= super quiet, ie suppress the actual title "WEATHER REPORT: [LOCATION AS STATED IN YOUR wttr.in command]" that appears at the top of this output. As you can imagine, if your location has more than 1 word and you have to add a "+" in between each word of your location, the actual title will display those + signs, which looks silly.

Yes, the "partly cloudy" ascii art in the screenshot is not too bad. However, the "thunderstorm" ascii art has a sun, a cloud, rain drops and lightning bolts. It's just too cluttered with too many characters in such a small space. Looks terrible.

Like asqwerth, I mostly use the fabulous 'accuweather' script or 'openweathermap' json-output for weather conkys. But actually the wttr.in data is pretty much configurable too.
I found that it isn't (or shouldn't be) necessary to enter a location in the wttr.in curl code. If left blank, then the returned data will be based on the geo location.
That would for example look like:

In my case, wttr.in will provide the data on basis of my geo location and display weather for 'Schiedam, Netherlands' (suburb of Rotterdam).

In below screen grab, that geo location is automatically displayed in the weather conky.

I don't have geolocation enabled so it doesn't work. Tried it quite a few times when I was first checking out wttr.in.

I just ran the generic command curl wttr.in/?T0Q, and sure enough, I got the weather forecast of somewhere with snow, heh. Definitely nowhere near me.

How does one enable geolocation outside of Gnome desktop (not that I'm sure I want that)? I'm on MX XFCE.

Strangely enough, when I run the command without Q, I get "weather report: not found" indicating no location was found. I still get a weather report for a cold misty place. It's not really an issue since I can always add my location to the curl wttr.in commands in my conkies.

I'm more interested in how you are able to display the moon phase graphic in the screenshot of your demo conky. When I try inserting that, or previously when I tried the command for one-line output, eg "curl wttr.in/Nuremberg?format=3" in a conky, the graphic always shows up as those square boxes indicating "no appropriate character".

Not every font is capable to display it. No luck with e.g Noto Sans or Liberation Sans - but fonts like DejaVu Sans, DejaVu Mono, and Droid Sans will display it well.

As you can imagine, if your location has more than 1 word and you have to add a "+" in between each word of your location, the actual title will display those + signs, which looks silly.

Yes, the "partly cloudy" ascii art in the screenshot is not too bad. However, the "thunderstorm" ascii art has a sun, a cloud, rain drops and lightning bolts. It's just too cluttered with too many characters in such a small space. Looks terrible.

I like that. Very small that I can tuck away in the upper left corner.

I like 21, but the XFCE 16 changes have disrupted themeing for me. I'm living with it. I made a window manager theme intended to have a similar feel to the greybird gtk, but tuned to my tastes. It's close enough for me to stop worrying about it too much. Very usable and buttons are easy to hit.

This is my final perfect WM with the merge of Xfce and Fvwm. The former has an excellent application manager and the latter is the best window/virtual manager. Super light and with unlimited functionalities. It is just a matter of creating new ones as per need and choices and managing with a graphical installer.

She said it is much easier to compute now. I think it makes her experience more like using a toaster.

Here's a screenie from my current development system that is a real mutt of MX-21 XFCE4+Openbox+zzzFM File Manager. I'm not an idolizer of people but John Fogerty has been a constant fave and a real musical influence so I've been running an Adwaita-based theme and using these 2 wallpapers for about a month now. I dug up an old Spotify Conky from github and modded it a bit to get my Playlists displaying on my Desktop..

I have been slowly working on bringing Greybird, CSD, and xfwm4 together into a sensible, moderate and usable theme I can live with. There's lots more to do but this is the general direction.

- Colour changes in the CSS files
- Made window manager theme
- Square corners on all windows - xfce does not do rounded corners well
- Reinstate the old window switcher in the panel
- Re-coloured the panel and whisker menu to remove the blue hues

I like orange but it might well be out of my system after this.

Blue is wonderful and any focus group or poll would probably still show blue as the number one pick, but it is everywhere across every Desktop Environment and it is becoming difficult to distinguish a project as something fresh and unique using blue these days..

Lots of customizations and tweaks.. Evolvere Icons including many of my own supplemental Icons, Custom jgmenu and much more. We are spoiled for choices with MX..

I added Enlightenment 0.25.3 to my XFCE and it wasn't long before an old romance was rekindled. No blank desktop shot because it's just a picture and Conky. Here's a shot with Desktop gadget overlay(toggle).

Nice! The Desktop gadgets make a nice alternative to either a Conky or GKrellM, or even could work nice in combo with, the Enlightenment gadgets for the 'Dark' theme are much cooler than the newer Flat gadgets for sure..

I have to agree about the look of the gadgets "and everything really" looking better in the Dark theme. I'm still looking for the comfortable desktop and feel I'm getting close. I kinda prefer the desktop overlay toggle and that way you can peek at gadgets over windows. In the long run I opt for fewer steps.

Which image viewer are you using?

Tried imv image viewer; surprisingly it works.
Trying pineapple pictures image viewer; straightforward; two settings; one setting to toggle maximize. A stay on top setting will be off for general use, but for purpose of this confirmation view and kill The on top setting On is a fit.

My preference will be to have just the desktop logo, no words. And maybe have even its presence optional b/c I enjoy a beautiful wallpaper without interference. My current one on MX Fluxbox, for instance, is a picture I took in Corsica of a mountain stream in flood, with panel and monitors hidden.

I was trying to reflect the level of LOLliness on my MX-21 FB trying to use forum gif onto the conky, unfortunately gif doesn't move. No parrot movement but It's okay the level is at 76% which is high. :parrot2:

I made the big logo from one of the stock MX logos and Inkscape 3D Wood filter.
I made the Xfce panel image by copying part of the wallpaper and gradient lightening the top rows of 3 or 4 pixels in GIMP so it looks like a beveled edge.
I made the start menu icon with transparent background with Inkscape.

This gives an idea of Fvwm customized functions and also shows a tiled wallpaper for any screen resolution (PNG image 960x540 for 1920x1080 screen). For example, the triangle button at top right corner has three functions (left mouse click (on/off workspace panel, middle-click (terminal), and right-click (Thunar).

I don't remember where I got the desktop background. I searched for "desktop background texture wood" and found it and several others like it on different web sites.

The panel doesn't have anything on it. It's just a 384x40 pixel area of the background I cropped out and rotated sideways. Then I made the top two pixel rows lighter so it looks like a beveled edge.

I took a .svg MX logo and name and used Inkscape to adjust the wood filter and color until it almost looked like wood. Then I pasted it into GIMP and added a drop shadow.

Perhaps in another Linux distro.

MX-21 Xfce, not MX-19, inspired to post by some of the recently nice postings in MX-23 screenshots thread.
I'm not usually a "motor-head", but I liked rokytnji.1's bikes.

WS1 – Still like the old default MX-19 wallpaper.

WS2 – I'll have to get that fixed.
