From my understanding an comments from a couple of devs - yes it will be updated and does update. i also remeber being told that the rc1/2/3 will show up until final release. from my take it shows people in the QSI when posted what the original install was so they have a place of reference. just do updates and you should be good.

Thanks a lot!.
Let's see how it evolves....

i have installed rc1 on 4 laptops now - some really old ones too and i have done all updates and i have not had 1 glitch. matter of fact a few weird anomalies and little things that were not so smooth on 21 all work out fine now. (i did ugrade mx 19 from rc1 to final also without any issues. ran until i installed the 23 RC1.) personally i am stunned at just how great this new version is. literally amazed and no BS or hype. i am a straight shooter and this one is sooooo sweeeet! Makes me glad i ried and have used MX since MX17.

This is a strange one

I have installed RC2 as a frugal install with home and static/dynamic root persistence. So far I've done most of the updates (via MXPI) while booted into home and
static root persistence but yesterday I did check MXPI while booted into home and
dynamic root persistence.
To my surprise I was shown a number of updates relating to the 6.1 kernel (from .37 to .38) and also for gcc which were not shown for the static persistence boot. I have since repeatedly booted into both root persistences and there's a clear pattern, I see these kernel updates
only with dynamic root persistence, not with static root persistence. Other updates, eg for the MX tools, are shown for both modes.
I have checked the QSIs for both boot modes (attached, first dynamic then static) for some obvious difference but have found nothing of significance.
Very puzzled
Updating a system should certainly produce the same results, shouldn't it? Because if it doesn't how can I be sure that the system is really up-to-date!?

@thomasl quite possible your dynamic persistence file isn't actually loading I guess, and that the updates have already been applied while you were using static. that's the only scenario I can come up with, since the actual persistence files are identical.
at first blush you look like you have plenty of ram, but how large is the persistence file at the moment?

@dolphin_oracle The rootfs file is definitely loaded in both persistence modes. And anyway, dynamic RP is not the problem I think.
EDIT: just for completeness' sake, the rootfs is 2.5GB and around 1.1GB is allocated./EDIT
When booted into static RP, I see this in MXPI:
Screenshot_2023-07-29_16-32-19.png
However, apt begs to differ:
Code: Select all
1~>apt list --upgradable
Listing... Done
avahi-sysvinit-compat/mx,mx 23.07.01 all [upgradable from: 23.05.01]

linux-headers-6.1.0-10-amd64/stable 6.1.38-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 6.1.37-1]

linux-headers-amd64/stable 6.1.38-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 6.1.37-1]

linux-kbuild-6.1/stable 6.1.38-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 6.1.37-1]
linux-libc-dev/stable 6.1.38-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 6.1.37-1]

mx-installer/mx 23.7.14mx23 amd64 [upgradable from: 23.7.13mx23]

user-installed-packages/mx,mx 23.07.02 all [upgradable from: 23.07.01]
So... my utterly uneducated guess is that something fishy seems to be going in MXPI because apt clearly sees those files as upgradeable but MXPI doesn't... and this doesn't happen when booted into dynamic RP.
EDIT2: you'll see that the five files that are shown in MXPI are all "mx,mx" whereas the no-shows are all "stable"... so whatever's the cause, it must have to do with that. But why... I haven't got the slightest

Printer doesn't work.
Situation: Printer is down in the basement, setup as network printer decades ago without a documentation what an how it was setup. It just worked so far
in MX21, the brother printer was found easily and worked as a PRINTER, didn't figure out how to make the network scanner and fax work. However this might be resolved via a driver install -
viewtopic.php?p=447475#p447475
Now in MX23 RC3, it took quite some time till the network printer showed up, clicking forward as I did in MX21. It is installed, yet nothing is being printed. Would love to add a log or such :D
at least here the QSI:

Try to disable the firewall, does it work then?
Firewall is new on MX, so could be that.

I'm using MX 23 RC3 on a PC, but I couldn't get the numeric keypad to work at login, I have to enable it manually with "Num Lock".
I already installed "numlockx" and rebooted and it didn't work, then I tried modifying the file in "/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf" adding the line: "greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx on" with no positive results. It doesn't reach the Login, I had to delete that line to get the system to start.
Any suggestions?

We need your computer’s complete profile before we can proceed, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.
