Whenever I don't login for several months & then try to boot up, the system gets stuck during boot up i.e, the progress bar gets stuck & doesn't progress further or slowly completes the bar but even after completing, nothing happens.
In such situations, the only way out for me appears to be to force shutdown by long pressing the power button & then restart, when it completes the process normally.
I use KDE alongside XFCE & both behave the same way.
It's said that force shutdown like that will cause damage to the system. Is it true?
When it gets stuck, pressing the escape button shows that it is awaiting populating the system. But it remains there forever.
Today, it happened even though I have been using the system regularly.
Want to know if it's normal if I try to boot after a long time (a few months) & is there a better way out if stuck?

Ubuntu ppas are not compatible with MX and can really screw with your system. See here:

Yes, may / may not.

In all cases: Boot with a live usb (or any other installed system if there is) then open GParted, right-click on partition(s) (especially on nvme0n1p2 and sda1 ) : "Check".

Edit: sda1 (in fact: all one by one "while you're at it" )

ctrl+alt+del will reboot the system.

I can see 2 Ubuntu ppa s in the list but how to find which are the exact apps offending so that I can remove them?
Is it enough just to uninstall them?
How to remove those Ubuntu ppa s?

You need to reinstall and not enable them again, It isn't enough to just remove the main packages because there's no way to tell what other dependencies were dragged in when those packages updated.

The link works for me now, but it was a little buggy when initially uploading.

Yes, I'm fairly sure that he means to reinstall, per:

and seeing this in the forum several times - and dependency hell.

Or do a Timeshift, or reinstall with a personal MX-Snapshot ISO, if you made either of those.

It is possible that fschk is running..it can be disabled within the mx service manager and turned on again at the users discretion.
