I want to Exclude all the folders in /home/username/ BUT hidden files (for settings etc)
Can you tell me, are there any hidden files used for System, theme settings on /home/username/ directory? (I want to save only those files)
Thanks
as I have already written: for this is the exclusion file. There are also examples how to handle them.
As a practical person, I have never deleted or renamed them, after all I have data that belongs in there (pictures, music, videos, documents, ....).

Deleting the default directories (which are present in every Linux distribution) and/or replacing them with others is also not a good idea if you don't know exactly why you are doing what you are doing and what the long term consequences might be (no changes=no potential consequences/problems).

Ok, Thanks for this,
Now please tell me what if I create new folders in /home/username/ directory named, Videos, Documets, Music etc. (As it was at the time of installation). Will it be ok then.
Thanks

As I mentioned before, keeping the default directories is a relief. Whether and how you use them is another matter.

You have to work out for yourself what is ok for you, my way is different than e.g. for user XY or user ZY.

I didn't just post the links to my blog because it looked nice. You can see from it, also as a teaching example, what a possible (one of many) solution to the backup problem might look like.

You have to find the right solution for yourself, there are enough examples.
The important thing is that YOU know why YOU do what you do.
On my system, I know that ... most of the time, and for problem cases I have a functioning backup system (except for large-scale bombardments in the event of war, I am protected against pretty much everything with my backups), which is the absolutely necessary backbone of any IT system.

In the last millennium (when I was still young and dynamic :-D) I had an IT company trading in hardware and software, installations, training and support. It was my daily business to provide adequate backup solutions and to convince customers to invest money in them.
This is often saved today ... with the consequence (in Germany) that e.g. authorities are blocked for WEEKS after hacks or simply due to physical failures. But we have well-paid equal opportunity commissioners and quota women who don't have a clue except for drinking coffee. No one is surprised that there is no more money for essential aspects of IT.
Padon me, I'm digressing.

Learn the basics, read the documentation, the ones on snapshot and live usb, for example, are very good and would be able to answer many of your questions in advance.

You should have an install icon on the desktop. If you don't (in the case of Fluxbox users), open a terminal and type 'sudo minstall' to start the installation process.

This may sound a bit paranoid, but you should also test the snapshot. either write it to a usb stick or start it from a hdd and perform an installation (a partition of 10-15GB somewhere is sufficient).

At least the first time, then you know how it works.

I make an average of 2-5 images/week, depending on how many updates come or whether I make major changes in the system (change from Wine from the normal repo to the testing repo, for example) that I want to undo quickly if necessary. And on average, I try out every second snapshot right away by installing it on a designated partition on one of my external disks.

I would suggest upping that amount, my snapshot alone is bigger than 10Gb.

My largest snapshot under MX19 had 38GB, my last MX19 snapshot had only 18GB.

Currently and after many optimisation measures, my current snapshot under MX21 only has around 5GB (root+home ~15GB). My entire system with all data is over 300GB, not including temporary project data.

I have already explained my backup & snapshot method several times on FB (both belong inseparably together), here I have already set a few links to my blog (in German).

Regardless of the operating system you use, if you don't think about an effective backup system, you can a. quickly fall into an abyss and b. deserve no sympathy because it's your own fault. Data loss and backups are not a hushed-up topic, people write about it all the time in all kinds of online and offline publications ...
And this also includes (at least occasional) testing of the backups.

My advice regarding 10-15GB was based on a newly installed system, where 15GB is always sufficient for a test partition.

If I had not tested my snapshots with the first Liquorix 6.x kernels, I would not have noticed that they did not work until it was too late. So I could use a workaround (just use a 5 kernel for snapshots) and wait until the developers here had solved the problem.

Maybe I should translate my blog article and post it here as text under "Tips&Tricks" ;-}

So directories that you can very easily exclude in MX Snapshot.
I don't know your directory structure, it's yours, you thought of something, then find your matching solution that you understand ;-}

I can only show you my backup strategy, you can learn something for yourself, or not ;-}

the texts are VERY easy to translate with deepL

Ok, more info about you. I also edit films. but not on linux system.

Happy to hear that.
