They do for me, but I'm running Fluxbox. Here's a web search with lots of hits that may help:

when i press a link it tells me curiously that "You already have a subscription for this feed."
Or "verifying your feed".

How are the Thunderbird settings for opening http and https?

Ok, same here.

In the preferences when in TB, I searched for http in the search box, and have the http and https set to "use google-chrome-stable" in there. My default browser is also set to that in the settings - default applications (MX menu, not in TB).

Maybe try that (for vivaldi then) and see if that helps.

Would these three commands help (running within terminal as normal user)?

I had the same problem, which is now solved by doing what @fehlix said. Why does it work? What does it do?
