Not sure if anyone will know what this means/has heard of this and I do not have a specific source to link.

I have seen that in I guess in upcoming Debian 13? that Debian will be "modernizing" how sources.list file will work.
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this and could explain as simply as possible what this means.
Was just wondering what will they be "modernizing" with the process?

Thank You

It changes the format the sources are defined in the /etc/apt/sources.list and in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ files

Instead of having something like:

Code: Select all

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
it will look like:

Code: Select all

Types: deb
URIs: https://deb.debian.org/debian
Suites: bookworm
Components: main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
Enabled: yes
Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg
It's a different format... you don't really have to worry about that too much.
