Data transfer slower since update to 23.5 [Solved]

Hello!
Just joined the forum.

First of all, thank you for providing such a nice distro, I also installed it on friends and family computers with very little computer knowledge.

It looks like the data transfer has become slower since the update, whether accessing an external SSD or connecting to my Daphile music server via FreeFileSync and Samba where I had previously 60Mb/s and now only 10Mb/s.

Has anybody experienced the same problem?
Has my previous config been lost during the update?

Have you tested the music server and external SSD against another computer to eliminate them as the source of the slowdown?
Is this slowdown apparent on both Ethernet and WiFi?

I use the same SSD and music server/internet box/router than before the upgrade. I had the 'feeling' that reading from the Samsung SSD was slower but I did not have transfer rates to prove it, but FreeFileSync displays it and this became obvious. I also did some data transfer on my sister's MX computer and it also peaked at 10Mb/s which I blamed on her hardware.

Because the slow down occurs with a separate computer is a good indication that the problem originates with your external devices and that the update to MX 23,5 was just a coincidental event.

I would suggest loading up a Liquorix kernel 6.5.x, clearing out cache etc and then retesting. I found the 6.5 liquorix kernel to be quite a bit faster in my hp's.

I have 'solved' the transfer over the network by using the 'SFTP' option in FreFileSync. This is amazingly fast, reaching 100Mb/s.
Just a side comment: Thunar is very slow compared to XFE.

I also use sftp for sync with my NAS, and even the comparison step is faster as the system can delegate the file system search to the NAS opposed to scanning the SMB share on its own.

The root cause of why your SMB connection is not fast is not solved with that though. Guess you were referring to network share access via thunar which most likely happens via SMB.
