As you may know I recommend Epson EcoTank printers quite frequently, and at this time have around 40 clients on them. One of the things about these printer/scanners is that they just work, and they work pretty well in Linux too.
Here is the best / simplest method I have found to get them operational on Linux.
Connect your printer/scanner and then setup the drivers:
Go here and search for your Epson product. (ET-2850, ET-3850, ET-4850 etc)

Once you find your device, download and install three drivers:
- Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P-R) for Linux
- Epson Printer Utility for Linux
- Epson Scan 2
You also want to make sure you have the following installed from MX Package Installer:
- sane
- xsane
Once installed, verify that your user is included in the following groups, using MX User Manager:
- saned
- lp
- lpadmin
Reboot, and at this time you should be able to print AND scan.
Now, personally, I really like ease of use for scanning. And, I prefer the *amazing* scanning utility called NAPS2, which not only scans really well, but provides network scanning, even on printers that are not ‘networkable’!)
You can download and install it from here:
https://www.naps2.com/
I should also mention… that you can find, many more Epson Linux drivers for most of their products at that link too. My Epson V500 Professional scanner, MFP’s, Workforce printers and many more printers / scanners.
