Installed MX on new pc but wifi not connecting

#1 Post by Tod »

I have bought a new PC and have replaced Windows by installing MX-23.3_x64 "ahs" from a usb stick. It seems to be working fine, but unfortunately does not detect my wifi (which does work with MX Linux on my old computer). I can connect the new PC to the internet via an ethernet cable, so the wifi connection is the problem. I would be grateful for some help on how to get my wifi working. My system info is below.

What is the make and model of your WiFi router? I'm asking this because of this dialogue:
https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless ... -p/1577809

The gist is that card should connect fine if it is accessing a WiFi 4 (A/C) network but will fail with WiFi 6 in Linux systems. I'd like to download the router's manual to see if it has the capability to broadcast in A/C only which should force your card to use that protocol as well (and then tell you how to make that adjustment.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I would think that no driver is the issue.

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet driver: r8169 v: kernel pcie:
gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: f000 bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:8168 class-ID: 0200
IF: eth0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter>
Device-2: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 driver: N/A modules: iwlwifi, wl pcie: gen: 2 speed: 5 GT/s
lanes: 1 bus-ID: 02:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:2723 class-ID: 0280

You might want to have a look at this thread.. start here .. and work down. If it is still an issue, then work back up a little.

*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Yeah, my laptop has the same chip, but it's loading the driver:

Code: Select all

 Device-2: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 vendor: Rivet Networks Killer driver: iwlwifi v: kernel pcie:
    gen: 2 speed: 5 GT/s lanes: 1 bus-ID: 04:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:2723 class-ID: 0280
  IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filter>
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Stevo, did you make any changes after installing MX Linux, or did the driver work straight away?

Thanks for the link. I have tried everything that applied, but with no joy. I did download the driver from the Intel site as there was none with the right name in /lib/firmware. However, the wifi is still not working, so any further suggestions would be gratefully received.

I notice that you are using a Liquorix 6.8.xxx kernel. Try the 6.6.12-1 instead which is known to solve a lot of wifi problems. Because it's a slightly older kernel, you will have to use Boot Options in MX Tools to set it as the default and then reboot.

Did you ever start the device with Windows installed? It's possible fast boot has locked that device.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Yes, I started the pc in Windows before installing Linux. I then used a usb iso to create the GPT partitions and disabled Fast Boot and Secure Boot and installed Linux. Is there any way I can check if this has happened and fix it?
