We can't fix that.
What you wanted is a package request. So.. if someone could make a deb package for skype so we're not dependent on Snaps, is basically what you are asking.

@Eadwine Rose that is not a snap repo, its microsoft's old skypeforlinux repo. microsoft may have changed their repo or removed it altogether, will look into it.
as Eadwine Rose says, we can't control that. However, I do appreciate the report and will remove the entry from mx-packageinstaller if the repo is totally gone.
in any case, You'll need to disable the repository.
also, since its proprietary and not open source, we will not package skype.

I know that is not a snap repo, but the only way TO get it now is using snap, that is what I meant.

Skype for Web should still work though if SNAP is not desired. Only issue web that is only "Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera browsers" are officially supported by Skype. You could try Chromium or Brave and see if it would work, but might have possible issues with support.

OMG, Microsoft has given the shaft to users of non-favored (non Ubuntu) OS releases?!! What's next, the sun rising in the east or water being wet?
I'm pretty sure snap packages can be used in MX, but you'll have to boot with the systemd option for snapd to start.

There is an unofficial flatpack
Thanks, D.O.
I see this in my (KDE) MXPI (Flatpaks):
Code: Select all
Short Name Full Package Name Version Size
skype.Client com.skype.Client 8.119.0.201 8.8 MB
BTW: Just figured-out how to get formatting, e.g. Tabs, to work on the Forum-- put your formatted text (from editor) in "code" blocks! Always Learning!
Does the above look like the Flatpak Skype version you meant?
BTW: Just noticed that the O.P. is for "Package Requests, MX-21". I am using MX-23 (on all of my 3 distros-- Xfce, KDE, and Fluxbox), and I have been getting the same error messages for the "skype repo" when doing updates. So, I'm assuming that the issue is NOT specific to MX-21. I followed the links listed above:
viewtopic.php?p=777591#p777591
It seems that the Skype repo issue will be for all versions of MX.
If I understand this thread correctly, I will have to:
1. Uninstall Skype
2. Remove existing skype repo from my list of repos (using repo manager)
3. Re-Install Skype from the Flatpak (as outlined above)
Please let me know if I got any of this wrong

If your official skype is still working I see no reason to go through all that. Just use it, there is no need to uninstall and then use an unofficial flatpak.

I, too, keep getting the skype update error every time I run MX Updater or Synaptic, but as skype still works (both on my MX-23 and my daughter's old MX-19 machine) I just keep using it, and will do so until it eventually fails or gets fixed. I'll probably revert to Web Skype when skypeforlinux eventually stops working.

You can disable the repo, like is mentioned earlier in the thread, that way the errors don't show up anymore.

I think it works the way like operadude wrote it in post #10.
I had just written the following in the German forum:
I had already installed skype a few years ago on my systems in use.
Of course only on 64bit, because it hasn't been running on 32bit for a long time anyway, Google and MS refuse to allow it.
I used it only selden, there are plenty of alternatives.
But I just started it for a test and was able to use it.
Well, at least attempts to make calls were not refused.
But I couldn't reach anyone, because the handful of family members are only online on Skype by appointment.
However, there was a message that I should update Skype via SNAP for security reasons.
Alternatively, it is also available via FlatPacks.
In any case, it's hardly ever used and switching via the browser is sufficient.
I only opened this topic because Skype was offered originally via MxPi "Popular ... " (as I remember it).
I thought it was just a maintenance issue that I was pointing out and that could then be easily fixed by the package or repo owner so that my updates would run cleanly again without error messages.
Of course, deactivating the repo has the same effect.
Since I now know that the repo link is probably irreparable, I have deactivated it and will use the possible alternatives if necessary.
I can confirm that in MX-21.3 the same Skyp version is offered in the FlatPacks as in 23.3.
Because FlatPacks run in a kind of container ( unfortunately not as clear as with AppImages, but also separate ), in my experience a FlatPack can also be installed and used in parallel with an existing application.
Only, it's always a bit tricky to find the right launcher or to make sure which of the two applications has just been started.
