Login screen Caps Lock & Num Lock possible bug
MX Linux 23.0 XFCE
-I think I found a bug, I was wondering if someone would be able to verify this and also not sure what application would be responsible for this (XFCE, LightDM, MX, etc.) to report this issue.
-I also am looking to be able to change the default states of the “NumLock” & “CapsLock” keys in the Login screen.
POSSIBLE BUG - STEPS TO REPRODUCE ISSUE
Not sure if matters but I have my “Num Lock” state set to be ON at boot.
NumLock ON & CapsLock ON before log off
-Log off out of XFCE
-NumLock key stays ON
-Now if you hit CapsLock key to turn it OFF
-This turns OFF NumLock instead
-Then you have to hit CapsLock again to turn CapsLock OFF
NumLock ON & CapsLock OFF before log off
-Log off out of XFCE
-NumLock key stays ON
-When you hit CapsLock
-This turns OFF NumLock & turns ON CapsLock
Similar results if you use the Num Lock key, it will turn off the Caps Lock (if it is on) and then have to hit Num Lock again to turn off Num Lock.
Seems like a bug, if others can reproduce this, where should this be reported to?
WAY TO SET CAPS LOCK DEFAULT STATE FOR LOGIN SCREEN?
I am also looking to be able to set default states of the NumLock & CapsLock keys in the Login screen as well. I would like the following settings by default.
NumLock = ON
CapsLock = OFF
I think this makes more sense because passwords generally contain numbers & are case sensitive.
Was wondering if it is possible to be able to set the default states of these keys?
Thank You

Would anyone be able to verify this?
Also would anyone know where to report something like this to?
Thank You

Strange, no responses?
Is no one experiencing this or just not interested?

Afraid I dont have any MX23 machines with numlocks and the mx21's that I do have ( four) none of them show anything like this.

@CharlesV
Thank you for trying this so quickly.
If this was an issue, do you know if it would be considered a LightDM GTK+ Greeter issue?
Wonder where to report something like this?
Thank you again
If anyone else tries this please let me know either way, whether it works or not would still be helpful to know.
Thank You

Re: Login screen Caps Lock & Num Lock possible bug
I have numlockx installed and I use a laptop with an external keyboard. With numlock and caps lock ON before logging out, when I log out the caps lock turns to OFF. Numlock remains ON. When I login again capslock is ON (previous state).
With numlock and capslock OFF before logging out, when I log out numlock is ON and capslock is OFF.
With numlock and capslock OFF before logging out, when I log out numlock is ON and capslock is OFF.

Re: Login screen Caps Lock & Num Lock possible bug
Okay, this appears to not be a universal thing.
I tried this on two MX XFCE machines and got two different results.
Both machines are set to boot with NumLock On, also both have the XFCE settings Keyboard - Behavior - General - Restore num lock state on startup (checked = on)
As mentioned with the machine I spoke of above, the state of both button lights remain the same, if they are on they stay on, if they are off they stay off.
However I tested on a different machine and even though settings appear the same, when I logoff on that machine if both button state lights are on, they both shut off, when logon then the NumLock turns on (because of that XFCE setting).
So again this is strange.
(On the machine I spoke about when creating this post, I tried turning off boot with NumLock thinking maybe the HW setting and the XFCE setting were conflicting but same results.)
I just want it so that in the login screen my NumLock is on and my CapsLock is off, because that is how passwords are designed to work.
Then after login would like NumLock to stay on, and ideally CapsLock state would be restored.
Thank You

Re: Login screen Caps Lock & Num Lock possible bug
@andymx
Thank you for trying this out.
Your BIOS doesn't have a setting to turn on NumLock at boot? that is why you are using "numlockx". When in the login screen, did you try hitting the CapsLock or NumLock buttons to see if they did anything similar to what I was experiencing?
Either way though you are getting a different result in state of the buttons as I just mentioned in this reply above
P.S.
I think Linus is doing alright :)
@Anyone
I also was testing MX Fluxbox for a different reason and tried this as well, and same thing occurs, so it is not specific to XFCE. Both DEs do use LightDM GTK+ Greeter so could be this, if not it must be something hardware related?
I don't think anyone is going to be able to answer what is responsible for this, but if anyone else has any ideas / more info / results I am still interested.
In Linux I have to logon / off many times so worth figuring out, if possible.
Thank You

@advice1010 There is no numlock setting in the BIOS that I could find.
