Nautilus context menu items sometimes do not work. | Broken accounting of active state for widget.

#1 Post by justnss »

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open nautilus
2. Go to the context menu
3. Select one of the options from the context menu

OBSERVED RESULT
The context menu has disappeared and the selected item is not executed.
For example, the copy/paste command did not work or file properties did not open.
One of the bookmarks on the left side is highlighted for a while, as if the cursor is hovering over it.

At the same time, the terminal displays an error:
(org.gnome.Nautilus:7560): Gtk-WARNING **: "time": Broken accounting of active state for widget "0xcode"(GtkPopoverMenu)

Video of the bug

EXPECTED RESULT
Normal operation of the context menu

Is your Quick System Info that short?

If you edited, please exchange that for the full QSI, thanks.

@justnss Welcome in.

I cannot reproduce this on two different KDE installs ( one fresh, one pretty tweaked.) ...

+1 on full QSI

You need to upload that to a hosting site and then link to it.

Thank you for the full qsi.

You can use use postimg or imgur for graphics etc. - not sure that it will matter, your description was pretty clear.

I am not familiar with these kernel params : nowatchdog nohugeiomap , maybe something there.

Since nautilus doesnt ship on KDE, I would ask where you loaded it from . ( it is in MX Package Installer - and if you loaded it from there, I would suggest reloading it. )

Also check ~/.config/nautilus and ~/.local/share/nautilus to verify nothing special in scripts or Nautilis preferences on Context menu.

You might try removing those two folders, reinstalling nautilus and see if a fresh install resolves it.

fyi.. I did finally get that error message, but everything seemed to work ok. (copy and paste ) And its not very producible in my testing either.

There are a lot of posts out there about this, including many on gnome.org , you might try hunting it down a bit in one of these.

@CharlesV
I tried looking for this error for a long time, but never found anything useful there.

Code: Select all

su
apt purge nautilus
apt autopurge
rm -rf ~/.config/nautilus
rm -rf ~/.local/share/nautilus

apt install nautilus

The bug is still there
What's weird is that my bookmarks in nautilus are still there. But to make a video I created a new user, and it has this bug too.
Both through the terminal and MX Installer the bug persists.

I'll try booting without my kernel settings, and try to reproduce this bug on a Live USB system
