Can grive be used with more than one GoogleDrive account?

#1 Post by Kester »

Hi,

Can grive be used with more than one GoogleDrive account? - I ask this out of interest mainly rather than an absolute necessity.

I have a GoogleDrive account as does my wife. I use grive version0.5.3-0.1-mx23 to sync my files. My wife also has a GoogleDrive account used for her photo images. The account is updated manually by drag and drop from her picture folder to the GoogleDrive folder - this is a bit clumsy but not overly so. I don't know if there is a practical way to set up grive to sync both accounts, my early attempts were unsuccessful. I've also considered an additional free GoogleDrive sync app but the first I tried, Vgrive would not work because Google rejected it. I'd be interested what other forum members do in similar circumstances.

Cheers.

grive author wrote: README.md

GRIVE NO LONGER MAINTAINED PLEASE USE GRIVE2

Grive is DEPRECATED. Please refer to the newest fork Grive2.

Grive2, WHICH IS ACTIVELY MAINTAINED, is here: https://github.com/vitalif/grive2
See if https://github.com/vitalif/grive2 supports more than one user.

@FullScale4Me: Thanks for your reply. My version of grive was originally from the MX 'Test Repo' but is now available in the 'Enabled Repos'. I have chosen to use this version after initially trying grive2 from external sources and having problems setting it up. Actually after these problems I first installed an earlier version of grive which was in the 'Enabled Repos' but was advised on this forum to try my current version which was undergoing tests in the 'Test Repo' at the time as the earlier version began to give errors. I'd prefer to stick with something from an MX repo if possible particularly in light of the issues I experienced with grive2 from an outside source. I have used grive2 successfully when I used Linux Mint XFCE before moving to MX-Linux a few years back and I got that from the git repository (git clone https://github.com/vitalif/grive2.git).

That won't work like that.

To make a tag you have to type the @ and the first few letters, and then click the name that appears in the box.

@FullScale4Me :
I've investigated the links you provided - as far as I can tell, there does not seem to be a method of achieving what I want which is to sync data folders of two users on the PC to their separate GoogleDrive accounts. There does, however, appear to be a method of syncing a data folder on the PC to two separate GoogleDrive accounts. That's not quite what I require. It seems I need a second free Linux GoogleDrive syncing app but which will give me least hassle to set up in MX 23 especially as Google is becoming increasingly pernickety over which third party apps it approves?

Is google-drive-ocamlfuse of any help. I haven't used it for some time - with an old chromebook, but it used to work fine.
Previously, I just followed these instructions up to probably adding to Session and Startup.

In MX-21.3 Xfce, Version: 0.7.30-0.1~mx21+1 is in MXPI>Test Repo.

@MXRobo : Thanks for those links. I notice that version 0.7.30-0.1 was in the MX-21.3 Test Repo but is not included in MX-23.1. I don't think I want to add a third party repo to my MX-23.1 system as I have had problems in recent years when trying that. I have come to a compromise solution however - I have dropped and dragged my wife's photo images directly into her GoogleDrive account and set up a new Cosy Cloud account for new images. The new account syncs to and from a Cozy Cloud folder created in the Home directory.

The free Cozy Cloud account is only 5 GiB but with the bulk of her images now safely backed-up to GoogleDrive, my wife should find this adequate for new items for a good while. One advantage of Cozy Cloud (is thttps://cozy.io/en/) that the sync app is an appimage so, other that a few folders/files in the home directory, the MX-23.1 system is not affected.
