You could do ...

Code: Select all

sudo groupadd vboxusers
sudo -E usermod -aG vboxusers $USER
sudo apt install virtualbox virtualbox-guest-additions-iso
There was a recent report in the linuxguides.de forums :KDE - Virtualbox install schlägt fehl: , regarding KDE on MX23 (but i can't imagine, that this is a common MX23/KDE problem, that has no already been noticed by any of the many KDE users here in the forum  ... )

oh thanks for that and terribly sorry for the late response - i have been aftk for quite a while - did a short stint as a buddhist monk to get away from it all :)

i actually gave up on the idea of using virtualbox and went ahead with using an old computer as a server in its place

i shall try the fix in any case
