Dual Booting is an option to keep your Windows installation rather than replacing it with MX Linux. Both OS can be run and have full access to all the PC's resources and peripherals.

Windows being the first installed Operating System is the preferred method. This document applies to all editions of: Windows 8, Windows 10 & Windows 11. Older PC’s Firmware is quite often referred to as BIOS. Firmware is used in place of BIOS throughout this document.

Dedication - The above document is augmented with many wise words from those answering user support requests in the MX Linux Support Forum. There are too many people to name individually. This document could NOT be anywhere as near as complete without them having given help there.

Your welcome. I just made some minor improvements to it.

As long as it doesn't require scrolling or clicking it will be visible to our newbies. At some point it will shuffle off to page two. The reality of a bulletin board, not a complaint!

I made even more minor improvements since my first post.

Actually, it's more of a rolling improvement (Linux joke). Since I created it I have been watching multiple places for what people struggle with.

I updated it probably >50 times since 2021 when it was a 4-page outline. Now, with the addition of a LOT of pictures, it is 23 pages.

A LOT of it wouldn't be needed except for PC makers each creating their own interpretation of the UEFI standard. Looking at you with the 'stink eye' Lenovo and Acer!

Thanks. Today I have made one major and several minor improvements to the document.

All changes were related to RAID having many names: RST/Optane/VMD Controller/Intel Volume Management Device depending on the PC maker.

This 'marketing name game' has created a LOT of unneeded end-user confusion in locating the RAID toggle to turn it off.
