Request: OVPN App/Client for sysVinit

#1 Post by spring.snow »

I was hoping, due to a decent amount of users moving from some of the popular picks because of some of their internal changes, I could raise this topic - if a SysVinit version of the VPN app is possible. I understand we already have a couple of good picks, nicely provided by MX devs (thank you!), but I think it could be worthwhile as there aren't many providers left that offer the same features, sadly.

OVPN already has some apps, but only for specific distros. Unfortunately I don't have the proficiency to tell if this would make it easier to port it or if it's a waste of dev time, but I would appreciate it if you could consider it.

There is an app provided under this link with a list corresponding to each specific distro, however, for Debian there is only a CLI option offered.

For clarity purposes, please note that this doesn't seem to be related to OpenVPN, which a lot of people tend to nickname "ovpn". This is a VPN provider with that exact name.

I've searched through MXPI (MX21.3) and haven't managed to find anything. I could only find a thread somewhat related, but it was mostly done with systemd scripts, here .

If this doesn't take away too much of your dev time, thank you!

I am not finding the link now, but I read some place that the OpenVPN client (GUI) would work with the OPVN service. You might check if something like AirVPN or one of the others could be setup to work with their service?
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!
