Help with Thunderbird Profiles

#1 Post by operadude »

Looks like I have an unnecessary TB profile that is eating-up almost 7GB of my storage space on my Xfce install, leaving me with only 250MB (yes, that's MB, with an "M") on my Home partition!

I set-up my Home partition with 20GB, since all of my data is on separate DATA drives/partitions.

First, my QSI:

So, I think the issue is that when Thunderbird upgraded to 115, I did not like the look, and I reverted back to 112. Now, looking at my ~/.thunderbird file/config, I see that I have a number of separate profiles. I always had only 1 main profile, which hovered around 7GB.

Now, I see 2 profiles that are 6.8GB and 8.8GB.

Can I delete the "old" one? And, if so, do I have to modify "profiles.ini" to reflect that? Similarly, do I need to modify "installs.ini"?

Here's my ~/.thunderbird directory:
thunderbird directory.png
Here's the data on what appears to be the "old" profile:
thunderbird_old_profile.png
Here's the data on what appears to be the "new" profile:
thunderbird_new_profile.png
Here are the contents of "installs.ini":

Code: Select all

[FDC34C9F024745EB]
Default=y7wsayuo.default-default-2
Locked=1
And, here are the contents of "profiles.ini":

Code: Select all

[Profile3]
Name=default-default-2
IsRelative=1
Path=y7wsayuo.default-default-2

[Profile2]
Name=default-default-1
IsRelative=1
Path=l6xedg67.default-default-1

[Profile1]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=ax9xmutr.default
Default=1

[Profile0]
Name=default-default
IsRelative=1
Path=qhl5rec4.default-default

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
Version=2

[InstallFDC34C9F024745EB]
Default=y7wsayuo.default-default-2
Locked=1
It appears to me that I don't need:

Code: Select all

[Profile0]
Name=default-default
IsRelative=1
Path=qhl5rec4.default-default
Can I simply delete that profile/directory (6.8GB) from my .thunderbird folder?
If so, do I need to make any modifications to "installs.ini" or "profiles.ini", or will Thunderbird just fix this for me?

As per usual, I have both MX-Snapshots, and Timeshift snapshots (including my .thunderbird folder).

Now running UNDER 200MB in my Home directory (yikes)!!!!

EDIT:

Using Thunderbird 102.13.0 (NOT 112-- looks like there is no 112).

Currently reviewing:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/p ... e-manager

Will see how it goes!

OK: We are Done!

So, it goes like this:

1. See the following article:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/p ... -profiles

2. As the above article says, do this when Thunderbird is open:
thunderbird_manage_profiles_directions.png
3. Click the "about:profiles" link, which is near the bottom of the first section, "Application Basics", and next to the Blue Tab, entitled "Profiles":
thunderbird_about_profiles_link.png
4. Find the old profile (I went with oldest date, and smaller size of profile directory):
thunderbird_profile_to_delete.png
5. Click "Remove", and I also checked/clicked to delete all of the (old) profile files, which comes up in a separate dialog box, after clicking "remove".

6. NO NEED to modify any other files! Thunderbird took care of "installs.ini" and "profiles.ini" :exclamation:

7. And for the piece de resistance (French pronunciation, please!):
thunderbird_directory_new.png

Got me some 7GB back :exclamation:
