AVLMXE 21 rtcqs spectre/meltdown mitigations?

#1 Post by chinface »

sorry 2 topics in a short space, presumed best to post them separately?

i recently doubled the ram on my machine (to a whopping 16gb!) and found it doesn't seem to use it, and will still glitch out (xruns/playback slow and glitchy after a while),

running htop while this is all happening shows the 4 cores at around 7080% ish,a nd the ram not used up, so unsure what that would be happening

ran rtcqs and it mostly seems fine except the spectre/meltdown mitigations,

from a quick google sounds like this is not a good thing to remove?

Hi,

Is this on AV Linux? Indeed the mitigations are not what the issue is and their impact on performance is far more theoretical than actual. You would be hard pressed to prove their impact on normal daily use..

As for your high CPU usage and the RAM not being seen by the system that sounds more like hardware issues or BIOS settings than actual Operating System problems..

ah yes sorry, brain fart, edited subject to be more specific.

again, sorry for poor wording, the ram is being seen by the system, just not used at all. The cpu usage can go close to 100% on ll 4 cores, and less than 2gb ram being used).
i thought chucking some more ram in would take the load of the cpu but guess not?

i'm using reaper on avl, vaguely remember reading somewhere here that different apps may prefer to use up cpu and or ram? so maybe the results may be different if i use ardour? (can't find the tread currently, so unable to confirm)
