Can't open MX Package Installer after update

#1 Post by onion_rings »

I just installed Private Internet Access VPN. After that, synaptic package manager alerted me about a system update, so I ran the update: It only updated four files. But now I can't open MX package installer. I rebooted the computer a couple of times but that didn't help. What gives? Is it the update?

Can you open Synaptic Package Manager instead? Main menu --> System --> Synaptic
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Ok I apparently screwed up a policykit file for an unrelated application and its causing a conflict. I'll push another update.

installing the disk-manager in the linked zip file should make the problem go away.

I'm still able to open MXPI after today's update. Could it be related to PIA?

I attempted to install the file that you linked, using disk-manager_23.04.03_all.deb. It doesn't seem to have worked.

Okay, well, now I can open MX Package Installer again. So... 🤷 Maybe I managed to install the necessary files after all?

Hello, dolphin_oracle.

Thank you for clearing this up.
This tells me 2 things: I will not experience the problem on my ancient MX Linux 19.4. But I might experience it on my MX Linux 21.3.

But wait: Just noticed that on my MX Linux 19.4 disk-manager is present. It still starts up as it should, however.

Code: Select all

$ LC_ALL=C dpkg --list 'disk-manager'  | egrep "^ii|Name|==="
||/ Name           Version      Architecture Description
+++-==============-============-============-========================================
ii disk-manager 1.1.1-2 all simple graphical filesystem configurator
