I've looked through the settings, but I haven't found how to make the panel transparent. Can someone point me to the right place please?

Well, I tried both of those, but no joy. Thanks for the reply.

you set a custom background color that is transparent. you might have to manually restart the panel.

xfce4-panel --restart

He may be using KDE as he posted in the KDE section.
