Shotcut not working for me

#1 Post by MXRobo »

@Stevo
Please let me know if I should start a new thread.
Also, apologies if this is a Shotcut problem itself.

I don't know what I'm doing, but Shotcut is not working for me.
1 - Maybe I did something taboo in Shotcut, but I reset everything and it won't export anything, but it did export one video correctly before this. :hmm:
[++EDIT++ I may NOT have exported anything from Shotcut, my mention above of a correctly exported video was from with the old Shotcut version!]
2 - Maybe it's a Shotcut quirk, but again above.
3 - Maybe it's missing something, again I have no idea - maybe the dingo ate it.

Just reporting and providing some links, hopefully relevant as if it's an actual problem and can be easily fixed, that'd be nice but I can easily live without Shotcut.

Shotcut version 23.02.16

I provided some quotes with hopefully relevant :crossfingers: links.
I get this view log:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/nice: '/usr/bin/melt-7': No such file or directory
Failed with exit code 127

per 2018 post.

I can provide Shotcut Application Logs.

FYI (I'm a linux idiot) There are two different versions of python3-mlt installed, one in enabled and testing repos.

Thanks and/or Sorry? :p

OK Eadwine, from now on I'll not be so hesitant to start another topic. :happy:

Maybe you should not be so hesitant to post more, since you have listed a version of shotcut that is more recent than their latest stable release which is 22.12.21. please elaborate on how this happened.

Melt 7 is also in our test repository.

I got a good laugh out of your response Stevo because I wondered the same exact thing after I installed it from the MX Test Repo considering that 22.12.21 was/is the latest version; I just assumed that you added the date that you added it to the Test Repo in the "About Shotcut" window within Shotcut's Help menu – maybe as an MX reminder or something.

Shotcut's Help menu shows it as 23.02.16
MXPI shows it as: 22.12.21+ds-2~mx21+1

But here's my elaboration:https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 28#p713628
and I find that humorous too.

Thanks, I'll try melt 7 – and report back, doubly dryly humorous. :p

Seriously - thanks for the melt 7 suggestion - I never would have caught it.

@Stevo
Thanks Stevo - Melt 7 did it!
I could export a test (Open Other>Color - Export), and a project.
I thought it might be me doing something incorrectly, I may get some other filter to work now too.

Now I need to read my links and see if Melt 7 was mentioned.

I was beat, physically, mentally, dead tired - everything seemed funny, and I knew it - thanks again. :number1:

I guess I need to add (melt >= 7.1) to the test repo shotcut's explicit dependencies, then. Debian doesn't even mention it.

That version it put in there seems to be the date I backported it from Bookworm; that could be reported as a bug to Debian...

Well then - I'm glad that I posted this, and I've used it more today and it seems to be working fine.

By the way, this newer version absolutely fixed the app text scaling, and I believe that it fixed the text placement on exported videos, not sure, that may have been my error.

I may create a Shotcut account and mention the Version and Melt 7 issues to them, particularly if it looks like they/he may submit a bug to Debian.
I might report a bug to debian, but again, I don't know what I'm doing in linux.

So again, thank you very much - it's not a bad editor, I like it.

P.S. - for others:
Flowblade is nice, but needs some top-down documentation – it's fast and very stable.

@Stevo
FYI – I reported both issues to Shotcut to no avail – no concern.
I filed a bug report about the backported version error to Debian and mentioned the Melt >7 issue too.

Still working very well.
Thank you.
