Package install error
Every time I install an update, I get this:
Package failed to install Error while installing package: installed grub-pc package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
I'm using KDE desktop. This is my os version:

Re: Package install error
We need your computer’s complete profile before we can diagnose a problem like this, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.

HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: Package install error
When grub updates there is normally a popup asking where grub should be installed. Usually that would be on the mbr of the first drive e.g. /dev/sda
However some users install on a partition instead, e.g. /dev/sda5
I've heard that updates through KDE's Discover don't show that popup. If that's what happened to you, usein a Konsole terminal.

Also:
If still the same:
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --configure -a
If still the same:
Code: Select all
sudo apt purge grub-pc -y ; sudo apt update ; sudo apt install grub-pc -y

Re: Package install error
Two things:
You need to read this:
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=44747
You are using the R.I.T. mirror as your main repository (probably automatically selected by the installer) and it is well known to be flaky. You should use Repo manager in MX Tools to switch to the Salt Lake City or Los Angeles mirrors, both of which are owned and operated by the MX team.

Re: Package install error
there is rarely anything wrong with the rit repo. that's rochester ny, and it did go down for a while a few days ago but AFAIK its OK now.
its very possible that grub-pc update has just never completed.
the advice that @Huckleberry Finn gives is good and should be tried before anything else.

Re: Package install error
I have been using the RIT repo for several years and have not had a problem with it. Just saying it is not a generic issue.

Re: Package install error
I based my remarks on the RIT repo on the problems that I and a few others had with it last summer. These problems were rectified when the main repo was switched to SLC.

Re: Package install error
I just want to say I ran the commands suggested by timkb4cq and Huckleberry Fin to move grub and now the error is gone. Thanks so much!
