Hi,
I'm fairly new to Linux and especially MX so I browse the web occasionally to get a bit of an insight into things and how to do stuff.
I just stumbled over this video:
Linux SUCKS at these 5 day to day tasks...
by
The Linux Experiment
Link to YouTube Video
I'm not familiar enough with Linux to comment on these things, so I wanted to hear your opinions and how I could takle such things in XFCE or the KDE version of MX Linux.
Happy to hear you thoughts.
Cheers
Julian

I mean really?.....
Sorry but a clickbaiter with anti videos... Not really a good standard to take advice from.
He is using wrong programs for the tasks assigned, says "I don't want it that way but another" - sorry but those vids are not what I would recommend. I won't tell you in clear words what I think about such channels - the forum asks me to stay respectful, so I will - but please stay away from such stuff and seek to enjoy and explore for yourself. Or find good resources that don't bash onto things and explain how to DO things instead of hating and being not willing to learn something new.
As a transitioner I know the first few weeks are a steep learning curve but it is very rewarding. That much I can tell...
I have not encountered a single thing in 2 years (with one exception where I need help of others too) that weren't solvable for my every day work with MX and some similarly constructed distros. You can't go wrong with MX - it's my daily driver for a reason.
Since I don't know exactly what kind of things you do in your every day computing it is hard to give recommendations - experiment a bit... You get a good software package manager wit MX - put that to use.
As an example the editing of PDFs in the mentioned video: I wouldn't use a normal PDF reader in Windows to try to edit them nor woud i use MS Word for that... Would you? You see why the video reeks? Try Master PDF Editor in Linux. If you are not quite okay with the functionality look what else is out there and find something you can get familiar with
BTW welcome to the family (of GNU/Linux users).

That's the way it is when you want to earn money with your YT content, you have to blow up every small, personal problem to the size of an elephant.
NONE of his "problems" concern me (us) and on our Linux PC's in the area of (mainly) image and video editing, sales were made, money earned, rents and employees paid.
And I'm talking about a company in the service sector and not a hobbyist who takes pictures of a wedding every quarter and otherwise plays around with his PC.
What do I think of the video? To put it very nicely: nothing, absolutely nothing!

There are consequences.

True that video is (maybe on purpose) rather polemic.
Though to be honest, I couldn't even tell you how to do these things in Windows
Which kind of bugs me by now.
The comments mentioned Master PDF quite often. And I saw it pop up on the PI a while back and thought .... Hmmm that's worth looking into.
The email and calendar part is something that is going to get vital for me in the near future.
Especially finding something that works seamless on my phone (s) , Laptop, PC and preferably on PC at work (university).
While being able to coordinate my private, work and rest of my life with other people.
The third part, I'm not even sure what he is talking about. But considering Android and Linux, using these on a TV and in conjunction with a normal monitor would be beneficial in connecting everything up and making a faster internet of actual use.
The parental control I wasn't even aware of.
But seeing kids and teens glued to screens gives a hint why that might be an idea while keeping the constant internet porn at bay.

@argonaut459 While Nick is usually very knowledgeable since I follow his channel "The Linux Experiment", but in this case he doesn't know what he is talking about. The issues he describes is because he is using Gnome desktop environment. I personally don't experience those issues. I recommend being objective when watching Linux videos because there are so many variables in user experience when using Linux depending on which, distro, desktop environment, applications, the user, and etc.
I am command line illiterate.
I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.

Indeed it is.
I seen a few of his, gave me some insight and ideas. Though I take everything with a grain of salt.
Don't know what he actually is using, though his recent kde videos gave me incentive to check out the kde version of MX
I doubt my laptop is powerful enough for that DE, however
