Boot time is the same with SSD  [Solved]

#1 Post by SkriptKiddie69 »

Hi guys, I'm having a funny issue with my boot time. I recently cloned my live MX Linux system on my HDD to my SSD. At first, the boot time was reduced (as it should be), from 40-45 seconds to 11-12 seconds, but now I check after two weeks since my SSD was in, that it's the same as if I had no SSD. I'm not sure what's causing this. At first, I saw that Docker was auto starting at boot time, so I disabled those, but now it seems that it just filled the time with nmbd or some other things for whatever reason. Still would like to know why my boot time is suddenly slow! It's almost embarassing that an SSD boot time is the same as an HDD lol :spinning:

My boot time before SSD :puppy: :

2 weeks with SSD (today) :

Super quick specs that I think are important:
-16 gb ram
-512 gb msata ssd
-my HDD is encrypted, so I know I'm not booting to my HDD (no crypto_LUKs passwd prompt)

If there is no intention to connect to Windows computers:

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable nmbd.service
(Anyway you can enable back whenever needed)

Alright I disabled it right now. Going to see if it changes anything.

Oh, no, that's not the QSI. Just press q when you open the menu (see my signature below)

And.. xfce4-screensaver ? (That's one of the trouble, though that may/may not be the culprit)

If there is such an option in Bios: change "sata mode" to Ahci (recommended especially for SSDs), save and exit.

Ok, just as I thought. It may be just not in the menu (long story). In a terminal:

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-mx

Code: Select all

quick-system-info-gui
whichever works. (Normally both are installed, the latter is the latest with gui, it just doesn't take its place in the menu sometimes)

(If they're ok, you can later use the "menu editor" to take them back in the menu (just one, say the -gui one) )

If no such commands, we'll install:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update ; sudo apt install quick-system-info-mx quick-system-info-gui -y

Oh epic thanks it worked! I changed the QSI now on the first post.
I also checked my boot setting and it is indeed in AHCI
