I contacted the nice people at Huion by email - and they replied next working day (today) with drivers and user manual.
How good is that?!
Better still - they work!
The tablet did work to an extent as a Game Controller under Input Devices but not in a graphically useful way as 6 buttons on the tablet did not work.
These now seem to work fine and dandy with still a bit more real life testing to do. And the buttons are user configurable so for Krita:
Zoom in ctrl+shift+=
Zoom out ctrl+-
(and Ggl chrome browser !)

I am really, really glad I switched to Linux - and mx Linux at that.
Using it now on the laptop instead of touchpad but more artwork to do when I feel motivated enough.
Moral of the post: ask the maker and keep fingers crossed - you never know? And High 5 @ Huion
(I am not affiliated in anyway with Huion nor likely to get any pecuniary rewards for sharing this information here)
