Can we remove mx-viewer?

#1 Post by keos »

Hello,

The 'mx-viewer' browser does not work correctly and I want to know if I can remove it, there are some packages that I do not know if could be right in removing them:

Code: Select all

root@kaos:~# LANG=C apt-get remove --purge mx-viewer
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  gvfs-bin libminizip1 libqt5positioning5 libqt5webchannel5 libqt5webengine-data
  libqt5webenginecore5 libqt5webenginewidgets5 libre2-9 mx-welcome-data
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  bash-config* mx-select-sound* mx-system-sounds* mx-tools* mx-tweak* mx-usb-unmounter*
  mx-viewer* mx-welcome*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 8 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 4359 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
Thanks for any commentary.

I wanted to remove it also since I have no use for it but if I did other packages that I use would be removed also so I did not remove it. It would be nice to just be able to remove it and not the others such as: bash-config* mx-select-sound* mx-system-sounds* mx-tools* mx-tweak* mx-usb-unmounter*

The problem you two are running into is that mx-viewer is used for the Help files of MX Tools--for good reasons.

It is named a viewer, not a browser, so OP's complaint misses the point.

I made a mistake, I opened the thread in the wrong section, then when I realized it, I tried to fix the issue by opening it in the right place

-- I couldn't find how to delete the wrong one, I didn't see an option for that purpose, sorry.

As for the mx-viewer issue, I didn't know it wasn't a browser.

Thanks.

I updated all those apps so they don't require mx-viewer, so you should remove it without removing the apps (once you get the upgrade, it should appear shortly in the repo)
I didn't know it wasn't a browser.
It is a (basic) browser, not necessarily meant to be used as a browser, it was added as a manual/help viewer (hence the name).

still, bash-config and mx-tools are likely to be removed :

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt remove mx-viewer
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libminizip1 libqt5positioning5 libqt5quickwidgets5 libqt5webchannel5
  libqt5webengine-data libqt5webenginecore5 libqt5webenginewidgets5 libre2-9
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  bash-config mx-tools mx-viewer
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 3 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 1,431 kB disk space will be freed.

I do not know if I understood correctly ...

I removed mx-viewer and it took all the packages with this operation, as it says, when I updated the system they didn't come back, so I had to reinstall them all, but when I did this mx-viewer came back again (?).

I think I'd better keep everything like this ... it seems that it can not be done in the conventional way and I do not want to force and break the system trying ...

Thanks

If you haven't had the upgrade, which Adrian mentioned, you shouldn't remove anything.

Wait till the upgrade comes through first. THEN you can remove that package without it running off with the kitchen sink as well
