No sound and no volume icon in taskbar after suspend

According to my search, this seems to be quite a frequent problem, I couldn't find an easy fix though.

So, when the laptop wakes up, there's no sound, and the volume icon has vanished from the taskbar. The only solution is to logout and then login (I guess restarting pulseaudio would work too).

Any solution to fix this?

This is not a solution , but that's just one of the quirks of Xfce 4.14 , non MX-specific.

Ah, OK then, I'll have to live with it...

Thanks for your answer.

Oddly enough, I have the impression this problem appeared since I updated the kernel from 4.19-0-6 to 4.19-0-20.

What if you go into the advanced options when booting and select the old one you had before? That is something you can cross check.

Checked.

So, I rebooted with the previous kernel (which is 4.19.0-17, my mistake) and suspended while watching a video on VLC, then logged in.

When logging in (typing the password) I could listen to the video playing from the moment it was suspended, but as the desktop appeared, the sound stopped and the volume icon was missing.

Although, I pretty sure, it wasn't the case with the 4.19.0-06.

I have seen this most of the time (I'm on 19.4) and with several kernels. It had fixed itself for awhile but I didn't notice which updates fixed or later returned the behavior.

I usually just open a terminal window (ctrl alt T) , quickly type volumeicon & and then press enter and then press Ctrl D. It happens so quickly I barely think about it.
