HP Spectre x360 fails to boot with systemd

#1 Post by SIttner76 »

Hi,

I installed MX KDE 21 and it works fine so far, but for various reasons I'd like to use systemd, but the laptop refuses to boot when I select it. I tried with the 5.15 and 5.10 kernel, same result. These are the error messages I get:

Image

As a test I tried to boot with a different installation of MX XFCE 21 (also with 5.15 kernel) and there it worked, so the issue might be related to how the KDE version differs from the XFCE version.
As a note, the error messages up until "TPM interrupt not working, polling instead" also appear when I boot regularly with SysVInit (both XFCE and KDE version), so maybe they are not relevant for this issue.
KDE version system info:

Thanks, I tried this but it still fails with the same error messages.

In Bios settings change sata mode to Ahci (from Raid). "Save & exit".

(Though it works on Xfce with the same setting , that's already a recommendation in general, especially when there are SSDs ..)

... If you have Windows, too : Before going to Bios first open Regedit and make these 2 simple changes (not to make Windows unbootable)

Unfortunately the HP Bios options are very limited and this setting is not available there. The laptop includes Intel Optane memory, i.e. two internal NVME SSDs (where Windows resides) are used in a RAID configuration. However, MX is installed and booted from a USB Stick and never touches the internal SSDs. I've tried out several other systemd-based distros on this machine and never had any issues with booting in this configuration.

have you booted that usb on any other machine?

also have you tried hitting "cntrl+alt+f7" to see if there is an X session going or not. I'm thinking no but it doesn't hurt to check the easy stuff.
