How-to remaster an ISO Live?

I'd like to be able to set up a custom ISO with my choice of apps and settings while running live.
Is that possible? What should I start with? Is there a tutorial for this somewhere? Or instructions?
If not, what would it take?
[ And will anyone be testing the Beta2 ISOs for this capability? :crossfingers: ]

Check out MX Tools > MX RemasterCC

Search the User Manual for Remaster. There is basic information there, together with a link to a YouTube video. (It's for MX-16, but the principles are the same.)

I have tested Remaster in MX-21 Beta 2 and it works as expected.

If you want to create an exact ISO based on the changes on the Live system (even on a Virtual Machine), use mx-snapshot.

Remaster is for saving all changes to the live media (generally a USB device) without the need for persistence. (The live media needs to be writeable).

Know the difference. Choose the ideal tool.

Thanks, all. Will try snapshot.

Yeah, about that: this seems (to me) a bit incomplete.
What should one use mx-snapshot to generate an ISO from?
Are there hardcoded assumptions built into mx-snapshot? Is it an immutable binary, or a script?

Not sure I understand the question. One should use MX, and use MX Snapshot to create a snapshot of the system. What exactly do you try to accomplish?

There is nothing really incomplete with what you are being told, the answers to your exact questions and more are easily available.

I would suggest rereading the posts here, post number 3 and 4 essentially point you to the information you need.

Why is it that booting an MX ISO from a multiboot stick generated with Easy2Boot, Ventoy, or YUMI won't give the same results?

Because they're not always or exactly the same as booting from a (non-multiboot) usb. Sometimes paths are changed and i.e. in Ventoy it's just an iso file that you boot from (but not an iso "written" to a usb stick) ...
