AVL-MXE: install of broadcom-sta-dkms failed, no driver wl

#1 Post by mixer »

Hello,

running AVL-MXE als Live-System from USB with persistence works fine, only wireless networking is not possible as installing of broadcom-sta-dkms fails.

With an installed MXL 19.3 on the same machine wl works without problems.

Here the output from
1. /var/lib/dkms/broadcom-sta/6.30.223.271/build/make.log
2. QuickSystemInfo in parts

Thanks for help

Do you have broadcom-sta_6.30.223.271-10~mx19+1 or broadcom-sta_6.30.223.271-16~mx19+1 ?
The former doesn't support the 5.9 kernel, the latter is supposed to.
You edited out your repository list out of Quick System Info so I can't tell if you have the AHS repo (which has the -16 version) enabled.

it's a known problem in the current iso of AVL-MXE that the AHS repo is disabled while it should have been enabled

It's a simple matter of enabling AHS in MX Repo Manager on the Individual Sources tab though (then clicking Apply of course.)

Also it seems that in this respin /usr/bin/quick-system-info-mx may have been modified so it doesn't show the same information that the standard MX Linux Quick System Info has, but we'll have to wait until AVLInux comes online to confirm this.

I checked and nothing has been changed, I still get the repo info

Ah, OK. I no longer have AVL installed in a virtual machine so I couldn't check. The original poster must have either modified his results as Tim suggested or manually ran an inxi command. If so at least he was good enough to paste it in code tags. (But the full Quick System Info would be appreciated.)

Thanks to all for quick and good answers!
Activating AHS-Repo and installing the broadcom-sta_6.30.223.271-16~mx19+1 packkage was the solution; wireless network is now fine!

In QuickSysInfo I deleted some infos which I didn't consider important, sorry.

Want marking the topic as solved, but didn't find the button.

Thanks again

Since the newer broadcom-sta-dkms seems to work well, can we move that to MX main now?

I asked for it to go to test first, since I don't have the hardware to test it.

Hi,

My apologies for not being as available these days as I'd like, I haven't got much time for working on AVL-MXE right now but my first project when time presents itself is to update the ISO's and straighten out some of the Repo issues on the existing ISO's. Please bear with me and I will get to it when I can..
