Hi,

I need to uninstall the nvidia driver, otherwise I can't install or start steam. I had this before and got the tip to install steam first and then the original driver from nvidia. Now I have rebooted my system and forgot about it. Now I want to know how do I temporarily uninstall the graphics driver without having a black screen after a reboot?

Thanks and greetings

Search the MX Wiki (or even the forum) for nvidia and you will find instructions for purging the proprietary driver and reverting to the nouveau open-source driver, though doing so shouldn't be necessary to install steam if you do it correctly from MX Package Installer, Popular Applications. You didn't mention where you found that "tip" but I think it's incorrect.
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.

Well, I installed steam correctly from the package installer and promptly got a missing lib displayed during the update. Can't tell which one because I uninstalled steam. I got the tip here, I think, but can no longer find it!
Now I unfortunately still do not know why and, also not how to uninstall the nvidia driver! Thanks anyway.

So, again installed correctly from the package installer! So looks like the error message! Although doing so shouldn't be necessary to install steam if you do it correctly from MX Package Installer, Popular Applications",
It happens exactly what I wrote!
