request xpra 4.0

I've tried the 2.x and 3.x versions, and hit bugs in both. Maybe 4.0 is better?

Could you describe for the Packagers (and the rest of us) what that is? Also, I see there is a Linux repositories page where it states that "Universe" needs to be enabled.
Production: MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

That's only if you are running Ubuntu.

@OP: have you tried their Debian buster .deb package?

https://xpra.org/beta/buster/main/binar ... _amd64.deb

A simulated installation proceeds without error in my buster box, haven't tried actually installing it for real though. Version 4 is a beta, apparently.

And they have their own main & beta repositories (to get 4.0 both need to be enabled).

Xpra is an open-source multi-platform persistent remote display server and client for forwarding applications and desktop screens.

It gives you remote access to individual applications or full desktops.
On X11, it is also known as screen for X11: it allows you to run programs, usually on a remote host, direct their display to your local machine, and then to disconnect from these programs and reconnect from the same or another machine, without losing any state.
It can also be used to forward full desktops, from X11 servers, MS Windows, or Mac OS X.

Xpra also allows forwarding of sound, clipboard and printing services.
Sessions can be accessed over SSH, or password protected over plain TCP sockets with or without SSL.
Xpra is usable over reasonably slow links and does its best to adapt to changing network bandwidth constraints.

I would like to use it with firejail to sandbox X applications. Firejail can use Xpra or Xephyr as a nested X client/server to isolate X applications away from one's X11 server so that they can't spy on the keyboard, screen or clipboard outside the nested server that Xpra or Xephyr create. This sandboxing with a nested X client/server is the only way to mitigate the X11 socket security vulnerability, other than running VMs, or waiting for wayland. Xephyr is old and stable, and part of Xorg itself. But it has some bugs - my usage can make it reliably crash similar to a bug reported years ago. Because of its age and tie to Xorg, Xephyr probably will keep the bugs it has for the rest of its days. Xpra is still being actively developed, and so I'm hopeful that it can overcome its bugs. Xpra 2.x would sometimes lock-up my X11 server. The 3.x version was better, but still had some bugs - I don't recall what they were exactly, but I tried it last year (in Manjaro) and decided the bugs were still too painful.

I didn't realize it would be that difficult to get the 4.0 version. Debian backports has the 3.x version, but not the most recent one I think. I guess the xpra devs must have really changed it considerably in 4.0 for it to have so many other dependencies.

3.0.8 is in upstream Debian, but nary a distro has the 4.0 work-in-progress. 3.0.9 is the current release.

Don't bother then. I'll live without it until it gets wider release. I'm looking for stability, not cutting edginess. Thanks, anyway.
