New antiX installation cannot connect to wireless router [SOLVED]

#1 Post by Tod »

Hi. Yesterday I installed the latest download of AntiX on an old Acer Inspire One (Atom processor, 32 bit, 1G RAM, 144G disk). It seems to be running ok, but I cannot connect to my Vodafone wireless router.

I have run Ceni to configure a new logical interface for my Acer's wireless card. However, it must fail to connect properly after that as Firefox cannot find a server.

I would be grateful for any suggestions on how I can get my wireless card to connect to my router successfully.

I use static DHCP (needed for other devices to connect successfully to the router) and have given the Acer an IP address on the router. On logging into the router it can see the Acer, as the router is displaying the Acer's name. But no joy when I try to use Firefox.

Have you tried using connman instead of ceni?

Yes thanks, but Connman only displayed my ethernet card plus an empty list for wireless networks. I used Ceni because it did show me a list of local wireless networks to choose from (including my own router). I did guess at most settings in Ceni. For example, i entered the static IP address my router was going to allocate in the IP field (also did not work when this was set to blank). I chose mode of Auto as well, as I assumed this was correct for a fitted wireless card.

Unfortunately connman and ceni don't work well together. If you want to use ceni, you will need to remove connman and the gui for it.
Then reinstall resolvconf and set up networking via ceni.

The antiX forums have a few threads on this issue.

I followed the three steps in the link and have moved a step forward. I can now see activity in the "wlan0 up" box on the conky. Also, when I log into my router (using my mxlinux laptop), I can see the Acer netbook, which is shown as being connected in the same way as my mxlinux laptop.

Unfortunately, Firefox still says "Server not found" and when I tried to download another browser, the package manager said no network connection. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what the problem might be.

How about trying these:

https://antixlinux.com/connman-not-connecting/

You did rboot after making the changes earlier, didn't you?

Also inxi -v8 may help us.

I'm sorry, although I configured ceni again, I forgot to reboot. After simply rebooting, I now have great internet access. (I'm very pleased how nippy it is on this old netbook.)

Many thanks for your help, Anticapitalista and Caprea. I shall mark the thread as 'Solved'.
