Do you still use Opera?

Do you guys still use Opera? An opinion, but also some damming facts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PedU3mNm-3Y

It's kind of sad actually, Opera was a browser that kind of made me switch to Linux back in the days, my logic was "I do 99% of what I need in Opera, if Xandros comes with that that it means I can use Linux for 99% of what I need" Back in the days when Xandros was released with Opera, then I moved to MEPIS... but Opera used to be the first thing I would install.

Xandros was one of my first Linux distros. So I used Opera and it was quite good. Also used it on Mepis for a while. I have not used it for several years.

Just gave Vivaldi a try based on the video Adrian posted. It is very good in my opinion.

I don't use Opera. I always found it difficult and haven't tried in many years. I use Vivaldi as my backup browser and find it very satisfactory.

I've used it and really liked it, but I'm sticking with Firefox for now. I'm pretty sure Opera has a proprietary license, which I'm not a fan of for web browsers. But it does have some great features, especially the built in VPN.

That was one of the main things attacked in video...

I actually switched to Opera back in the day because of you, I loved it.

Been using Google Chrome for a long time now, especially the synching with the phone and such contributed to that.

Opera is my secondary browser that I use when some webpages do not open with FF (likely because of some addons).

Not shocking, considering that video was basically one long sales pitch for paid subscriptions to ExpressVPN.

Fortunately I did not use the Opera VPN for privacy, but to overcome geolocation restrictions. I was well aware that it wasn't private, Opera makes disclosures right up front about that. It's a good free option to keep handy for just that purpose of occasional geolocation unblocking if you're only going to use it once every few months and don't feel like shelling out $13 bucks a month for a paid VPN like Express.

A bit late here...nevertheless...I stopped using it and unistalled it from MX when I learnt that they claim Norwegian whatever but at the end their TOS and Privacy are based upon Singaporean law.

I still use it occasionally to get around random blocks on public wi-fi - e.g. this forum ( ) at one McDonald's in upstate NY and Google Drive at another place.
I'm rarely on public wifi. If I used it more I'd get a real VPN.

Got an email from a user who was blocked on public wifi as a spammer. Actually means or spam protection is working for listed spam IP addresses.

I was using it for a while and I can certainly see why it's well liked. IIRC it was the first one to offer tabbed browsing as well as a cascade view (somebody please correct me if mistaken).

For some reason, installed their GX version on Windows yesterday.
Don't we always like to try something new?

Still prefer Vivaldi but keep Firefox as backup.

I got a notice like that on one of my vpn's servers recently. Workaround was easy - just used a different server. If we see that should we report the server to you for un-banning, or would you prefer to keep those vpn server ip addresses banned due to their past spamming?

I would prefer to keep them banned. As you did, legitimate users can switch servers.

I'm having similar problems, albeit not on a public network. May I also contact you privately?

Yes if you need to give personal information. If general start a new topic in Site Help regarding your issue so all may benefit from the discussion.

I used Opera years ago on WIndows (and Mepis IIRC), but switched to Firefox for the multitude of add-ons. Thought I'd stick with FF forever, but now I use Vivaldi because it runs perfectly with ~100 tabs open whereas FF was struggling. Subjectively, I also think it wins on looks, with a bit of tweaking.

Still use Opera on android for the VPN but the best feature is the 'text reflow', which I can't seem to find in any other mobile browser.

I've tried Vivaldi and Opera but eventually I came back to Firefox because many plug-ins I need (espacially youtube downloaders) are unavailable on the other twos.

I had been using Opera until recently. In mid June the VPN button / function dissappeared from the browser completely. It happened on three of my MX LINUX computers', but not so on Linux Mint. Why could that happen?
