Hello!
I am new to (MX) Linux and on my way to migrate from Windows 7. I am reading and searching a lot but some things I can't figure out.
For the moment I like to know if it is possible and how to change the password for the system encryption and how I can change the keyboard layout and GUI language of a specific user?
Couldn't find any Linux general or MX specific advises or FAQ/Wiki articles that brought me further.
Bye
Jan

Re: Change user language and encryption password
Do you mean the password for full disk encryption and NOT the password to just log in?JNN wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:54 am ...if it is possible and how to change the password for the system encryption...
Both types of passwords can be changed. Changing the log-in password is easy, but changing or adding passwords (up to eight total) for full disk encryption is a little more involved.
One way uses the terminal and another possibly (not 100% sure) uses gnome-disks-utility, also called "Disks".
If you were referring to Full Disk Encryption I'll provide the details I have.
Re: Change user language and encryption password
Thank you. I haven't paid attention to that area and not noticed. But it seems for the moment that I have to change the keyboard layout before every login.dolphin_oracle wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 9:18 am language and keyboard can be set on a per user basis from the login screen. upper right hand corner.

I was referring to Full Disk Encryption even if it is just one partition, but the hint to Disks was already enough. I already installed it for other reasons and just wasn't aware about that functionality.Stuart_M wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 11:16 am Do you mean the password for full disk encryption and NOT the password to just log in?

So both questions are satisfactorily answered, problems solved, case and thread closed. Others will come up

Thank you very much.

Found it. Thank you.komer wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:45 pm You don't have to change keyboard layout per every login.
After you (user) log in, go to keyboard settings (menu > settings > keyboard > layout tab). Untick "use system keyboard", add new layout and/or set it as default (move it to the top of the list or delete other layouts) for current user. Done! This change will stick.
Alright.komer wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:45 pm EDIT: btw, if you want to mark thread as "solved", you gotta edit subject of the first post, not the last one. And don't delete the complete subject, just append [SOLVED]. In this forum, users can't close threads, that's for mods. But marking thread as solved does help.
Damn it, yes!komer wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:45 pm EDIT2: btw2Since you're completely new to (MX) Linux, it would be a good idea to read User manual. It comes preinstalled with MX Linux and it's also available online. For example, if you've searched for the word "keyboard" in user manual, you would find both answers on pages 21 and 23. Good stuff, huh?

Aware of my need for information I still let me show the MX welcome dialogue on every login. By looking for an answer I followed its order. So I checked the FAQ and then the Forum. But after not finding something in the Forum I started the thread - being already there - without considering to continue on the Welcome screen with manual etc.
I've done the research now and acknowledge that I find the answers there too. And a lot more. Seems to spare me... us some more new threads

Thank you and sorry for not rtfm :D
