Slow boot on Thinkpad X61

#1 Post by Danceman »

After being very pleased with MX Linux on a Thinkpad T400 I have installed it on a Thinkpad X61 that formerly had Mint Mate. On the boot from the live USB the screen goes black following the line mentioning something like "network connection" or "network connection manager" and sits black for just over 4 minutes before the desktop comes up. Once installed the behaviour is the same, with a wait of 4 to 5 minutes. This is on an ssd. There were no booting issues with Mint Mate, and the MX usb boots normally on a Thinkpad T410.

This tablet Thinkpad is standard apart from maxed ram at 4G and the change to an Adata 120G ssd. Is there a diagnostic I can run that might point to the choke point? The OS is behaving normally once booted. I tried both 18.2 and 18.1, since the T400 started with 18.1.

Some laptops show this slow boot bug with the 4.19 kernel, but not with the 4.9 Debian kernel, which is easy to install in the MX package installer.

Does the X61 have an S-Video port?

Apologies, can't remember getting a notification of your reply. I resorted to installing Mint XFCE after checking out a bunch of distros, but I use MX on all my other computers. Can only see an analog video out on the X86.
