bizarre problem. the installer is "sudo -E /usr/sbin/minstall" from i believe the very latest version of mx. i can not define my partition. this is what i tried:
a brand new reformat of my ssd, new iso burn to usb, blank /home partition on nvme0n1p10. run the installer; it wants to place /home with /

i installed debian. same exact response trying to reinstall with mx. to the letter. however now /home is defined by debian, which had no problem with it.

i recall using 18.1, and being able to define my /home to share with the other players. i suspect it's something to do with 18.2, but i can't be sure until i repeat the process. fyi, here's my partition table for this drive:

root@mx1:/home/demo# lsblk

Did you check the md5sum/hash/sha/etc of the download and the media you used to install?

I thought we fixed the problem of partitions more than 9. I guess not.

that's might be the issue.

I assume that checking in the custom partitions area that your partition doesn't show up in the /home menu?

nope, it does the same thing in 18.1 - it's just that i know i've installed mx before, and was able to set the /home partition to the already existing /home

oh, yeah, i forgot to say that when i go to file manager, there it is, and after i give it the root password, i'm able to access it, but then, same problem after i go to the installer. the only difference is that i was malingering before going to the installer. i spent a lot of time using the live distro before i decided to install. i could have clicked on anything or given any type of command a cut and paste commando could

yes, yes ! it doesn't show up in the menu. it DOES NOT. and yes, you did fix the problem of partitions more than 9, and i had that release, but i must have misplaced it, or my release(s) got corrupted somehow - both of them

no. i didn't do this. but i tried two different releases with the same result. i'm guessing it is independent of the md5sum, but if that's what'll do it for you, i'll post it. i'm not posting it now because i have to look up how to do it

or get this, remember i said i reset my ssd and started over ? the probability that my /home partition was below the sweet spot is very high

ok, i just checked my previous installation. yes, there were less than 9 partitions, and the /home partition was #4

i'm willing to take recommendations at this point. i'm thinking of going ahead and installing it, and then copying the debian fstab over to mx. but i don't want to butcher it; i'm not a linux certified technician, just a lowly cut and paste commando
