Latest sprint with MX18 has been the most positive yet!
Pros:
-sleep mode issue (not waking up from) has been resolved;
-boot/shutdown speed = Solus Budgie (best IMO);
-wallpapers choice just fine;
-the installation process is a breeze.
Cons:
-just a bit of screen tearing.
-did take 3 reboots before HP printer was able to work.

Screen tearing really depends on the hardware of the user and is also happening on a regular MX18 install. But that can easily be fixed after the install.

Compositor off doesn't make a difference.
KDE distros don't usually have this issue.
If you have other tips, i'm game!

What graphic card do you have? Have you installed the Nvidia driver (in case you use Nvidia)? Maybe you are using the wrong driver.

Thanks, but Compton makes no change happen either.
At first i thought it might be a Firefox thing, but it happens in Vivaldi as well.
The "horizontal line" appears more precise in the latter.

I can create that .txt file with LibreOffice but can't save or paste it into that folder.
See how non-geek i am!

Create it in FeatherPad, and see if that helps.

Kudos to you all friends of MX and thanks for hanging in there with me!
Was able to create that file with FeatherPad, save it as root and then paste it into the folder.
Rebooted and no more screen-tearing!! yay!

Don't know if it's my imagination, but fonts seem much darker, sharper and thus easier to read too.

Don't save it as a .txt file, just as "20-radeon.conf". Then you need to be root or sudo to copy it into that system folder.
Code: Select all
sudo cp 20-radeon.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
We already have an Intel tweaker in MX Tweak, and radeon and amdgpu support the Tearfree option--maybe we can add that to Tweaker.
Here's the file already created for you and zipped up:
20-radeon.conf.zip

@Stevo - yup, do think it would help in my case.
Being a non-geek (other than always a hassle to find this post with your helpful tip), i never seem to remember where and how to install that file.
Of course, XFCE 4.14 should resolve that issue but who knows when MX will come out with it (when it is ready i know).
