MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
Re: MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
When I run that command to populate Master, it takes a few seconds and then only US is created.
Screen 1 -- I accept the default "All"
Screen 2 -- I accept the default "US" for my system
After it takes its no-time-at-all to finish, I run locale -a and only the US shows. What am I doing wrong?
BTW: can I just import a file from MX?
=======================
Went back and ran the command, then manually checked the languages for most of the countries downloading. That is now generating correctly.

Re: MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
After running the command, I select 'All...' with the space bar, and tab to OK, then scroll to select GB as default, tab to OK, and it runs, generating them all. It takes maybe half an hour. (I've done it 5 times today!)Jerry3904 wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 8:23 am When I run that command to populate Master, it takes a few seconds and then only US is created.

I wonder if things were different for you because you already have your default in place?

you can install locales-all for precomiled locale data, which we have considered in the past because generation takes so long.Jerry3904 wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 8:23 am When I run that command to populate Master, it takes a few seconds and then only US is created.

there is no file to import from MX. we build the locale data during the iso build process.

No, I'm not.Jerry3904 wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 7:00 am Thanks for the testing. That makes no sense to me, either.
Since choosing nitrogen means cancelling fehbg in startup as well, I'm going to take it off the image.

Heads up: Microsoft repo secretly installed on all Raspberry Pi’s Linux OS
good to know, solution see point 2

Thanks. It's all over the RPi Forum where people are justifiably angry. Since we're using Updater, I saw it as soon as it was enabled, and was shocked. I just deleted it b/c I knew I hadn't put it there.
Pretty bad decision on the part of RPi engineers to not let users know at least with one of those Y/n terminal questions that are so annoying.

Re: MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
Wow seems a little extreme. All they did was enable a repo server. They didn't install anything.

Re: MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
Agreed. But it's pretty tone deaf to not let (Linux) users know that the repo is being added and why, I mean it doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure out what the reaction is going to be.
I like this post from an engineer on the RPi Forum:

I will be removing it from the MXFBPi because anyone who needs the code will probably get the repo re-installed when downloading the software.I removed that APT source because I don't need VSCode, so if you don't need it either, remove /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vscode.list

Re: MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
You probabky want to just disable the repo instead of remove the list file. The list file will like come back enabled after an update otherwise.

Re: MXFBPi Beta 2 testing
It's important to remember why the Raspberry Pi was created. It's never been intended to be FOSS pure, and only uses Linux because it's free of cost. It Microsoft had created a 'Windows Lite for ARM' and made it free, the Raspberry Pi Foundation would have been very likely to have used it.
The Pi was created to help promote interest in coding and physical computing amongst school children. There was no thought that it would become what it has.
