apt-get is doing the same. Crashing and closing down the virtualbox or shows hash sum mismatch.

In a normal HDD installation (MX-15 with KDE) I've had no APT/Synaptic problems. After running for a week at a time with each DE I find that I just know my way around KDE a little better so I'm running it for the most part.

However I've found that XFCE is very usable and currently my daughter and her kids are using 14.4 as their OS. They are using an old Intel Pentium IV-1600GHz with 1 GB RAM. 120 and a 20 GB PATA HDDs. SoundBlaster Audigy. AMD 8500 LE AGP x2 video card. 19" 1280x1024 LCD. It's very responsive and replaced a very old iMac that could not be upgraded to a newer OS and so would not run Flash any longer. Flash=games=kids having something to do online as the oldest is 7.
I expect to install MX-15_64 on the 20 GB HDD shortly.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Good point about the HDD being different from VB--we've seen that before.

And nice to hear about the kids...

It could be that the M11 virtualbox is getting a little bit old. Must upgrade my work OS soon, that's why I'm testing.

If anyone runs into the hash sum mismatch problem, I was able to fix it by updating the package lists live first. Before installing.
Don't know if it was pure luck. Worth a try.

Get search functions in Dolphin working

#67 Post by richb »

The Dolphin side panel functions to find images, documents, etc, and Recently accessed files, did not initially work in KDE installed with MX Package installer. By adding baloo these became functional both on KDE and XFCE in Dolphin.

Has anyone been able to get kdesu working in a terminal?
Another thing I'm working on is removing a very stubborn ghost floppy. Have removed the floppy group (which is possible in Jessie). Nothing in systemsettings to disable this 0 byte device.

Strange as it does work from Alt-F2, but not in konsole.

EDIT: this fixes it

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/kdesu /usr/bin/kdesu
EDIT 2: Sorry no it does not. I was using kdesudo.

Very strange. It's a known bug, but how to fix it for this version of kde? Can find it for later or earlier versions.
