We have begun working on internationalization for the native applications, and will be looking to get the translations filled out and/or brought up to date (especially the Installer). These applications include not only the ones we have been developing for this version/release, but also legacy items such as the MEPIS/antiX Installer.

1. MX-muser. The text strings are posted online here:

Just joined for the Dutch team.

Now I have NO idea what the protocol is on this one, I see that I can translate things, or adjust if need be to some better form of the Dutch language, but can I just DO that?

Or does stuff get assigned?

Great--you're good to go! Others may try to improve some aspects, and sometimes there are multiple possible translations (dialects, alternatives, etc.), but it usually works out AFAIK. anti is our guide here as he has a lot of experience through antiX.

Feel free to make changes to existing translations. Write what you think a native speaker would understand eg if OK is OK use OK!

Hopefully I can make a dent in things so to speak. Starting out translating things that have not been translated yet though.

Why/how are the completion levels going up each time I look? Is the software filling in from other sources or something?

I will try the Romanian translation, but I have to admit that I don't even know the Romanian terms for "folder", "directory", "desktop"...

At least when you look stuff up you will have a clue whether it is correct...

Of course the priority is for the MX translations to get done, but if you want to help out with translating the other files for antiX, I will be very happy :)

They have an mx prefix (apart from muser)

There are only 3 directly related to MX.

File directory is director fișier

Desktop is "desktop"

Thanks, "dosar" and "fișier" means pretty much what they mean in English, however I saw in Ubuntu translations that they use "director" for directory which is a neologism I guess ("director" might also mean director which makes things confusing, I never use translated programs to my native tongue, I would have problems finding my way in them )

Same here Adrian.. just give me everything in English. Also due to the fact that when something is up and I have to come here to ask I don't have to translate everything to "common computer language" first hehe.

And there is a small error in string 75 (mx-minstall_en.ts): installing MX-14 then reboot to the DVD
Should be CD.

I thought we removed this... do we still have a utility to fix GRUB installation? Which one, maybe we should mention it there. Where do you found "reinstall GRUB function"?

Sorry, installing GRUB failed. This may be due to a change in the disk formatting. You can uncheck GRUB and finish installing MX-14 then reboot to the CD and repair the installation with the reinstall GRUB function.

Would those legacy strings show up at all in the new applications?

Grub Customizer says it can be used to restore the MBR, though I have never tested it.

@Anticapitalista,

I noticed a new persist-makefs file to be translated. Many of the lines seem like terminal commands. Those don't need to be translated, I hope.

I finished Romanian translation, I was actually please when I tried to install with Romanian, I was not get overly confused even though I translated blindly...

I finished the mx-user and mx-codecs translations too, can you please add them too?

Please check translation strings again over and transiflex as soon as possible then I can upload the latest debs with corrected language strings.

Which ones have preference? The ones with the mx prefix?

I did my first installation of mx-14 today. Thanks a lot for your great work!
I just went through the German translations of mx-minstall and mx-muser and corrected a lot of details.
Should be quite smart now.

As soon as I find the time I will continue with more files.

Everybody hello to like MX-14 and MEPIS.

The Japanese people can use MX-14 in Japanese easily.

Japan is a country with much Windows use.
Therefore there were many Japanese who used Windows XP.
Some people choose MX-14.

I have already registered an account of transifex.
and I finish the application to antix-development before of little hours.
I have already begun Japanese translation.

I see that fu-sen is the name of a famous Japanese bubble gum, so now things make more sense.

Re: translations "Dutch (Belgium)" :
Since no native Belgian has contributed anything sofar, I suggest to just use the existing "Dutch (NL)" translations for "Dutch (Belgium)".
Flamish Belgians may use some other wordings, but the existing NL translations will be understood by Flemish folks.

I'm not sure whether this can be achieved in a easy way (one or a few commands to copy over all existing translations?) or whether it would have to be done by copying over all existing translated content -- one after another.

I'd prefer the easy way......:-) Or just leave "Dutch (Belgium)" translations empty ?

"バブル"(bubble) is different Japanese "泡"(あわ = awa).

"風船"(ふうせん = fu(u)-sen) is "バルーン"(balloon(s)) definitely.


But the hot-air balloon has different Japanese "気球"(ききゅう = ki-kyu(u)).

The only Awa I know is in Awamori

泡盛(あわもり = Awamori) is traditional liquor of the 沖縄(おきなわ = Okinawa) area.
