Stuck at acpi error after grub
Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
The ddm.log file says the Nvidia build failed because another application had the apt lock at the time. This can happen if you have Synaptic or an MX app that installs packages (MX PI) running at the same time. There can be only one. Do you remember it that's the case?
Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
I don’t think I remember anything like that. Synaptic manager and package manager never run together and I have not installed a thing on my distro for now...
Also I installed test repo for Nvidia driver version 400.smth and now got stuck at CLI when I login...
Tried setting nouveau.modset=0 AND nvidia.modset=0
Uninstalling drivers worked and using startx gets me the gui But every time I restart the system I am stuck at CLI
This happened even after uninstalling the drivers using sudo ddm-mx -p nvidia

Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
Something had dpkg locked like Stevo said.
It’s really odd because I just did a test install of the nvidia drivers and it went fine.
There was also the message about broken packages, not sure, but I believe that should go away after it fails. You could check in Synaptic though.
You can try to use the option mentioned by another user, it shouldn’t hurt anything at this point just adding it to MX Boot Options Unser MX Tools.
You add it right at the end of the box labeled “Kernel parameters”
I think it’s time to do some web searching specifically about this laptop model... this really shouldn’t be that hard to get your laptop going. :(

Code: Select all

The wiki article tells you what to do when your system won't work after installing Nvidia drivers.mxp wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 9:37 pm I don’t think I remember anything like that. Synaptic manager and package manager never run together and I have not installed a thing on my distro for now...

You should reboot immediately prior to installing the Nvidia drivers to ensure that nothing else is running that might interfere with the installation.

Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
Also, don't add the test repo manually, and don't choose that option in the installer, either. we have the latest versions in the AHS repo already. Disable the test repo if you enabled it either manually or with MX Repo Manager.
Re: Stuck at acpi error after grub
Hi everyone
I am sorry for being inactive for so long. The latest nvidia driver was not there in the regular AHS repo.
So I was inactive coz I shifted from MX Linux to Pop OS which worked perfectly right out of the box(except for having to install GRUB). No issues with Nvidia drivers either.
Also if any further testing is needed to help improve MX Linux I will be glad to do the same and share the results of any tests or commands after running MX in Live mode.
P.S. made complete shift to Linux now. Bye bye windows
Thanks a ton everyone for taking the time to help me.
