Yes. Exactly. You make a good point. :-)

Is it easy to reverse?

But after that I decided to put the backports version of libreoffice onto the laptop also. Just so it matched my desktop machine I suppose.

So I searched libreoffice in the backports tab of the mx package installer. I started going down the list ticking all libreoffice entries, but then I saw the "upgrade all upgradable" button, so clicked it thinking it was just going to update the libreoffice entries my search was showing.

So the upgrade went ahead and I watched the output in the window as it happened, and realised it was doing much more than just libreoffice. I think I've just upgraded everything on my system that could be upgraded to backports to the backports versions.

That's fine with me. I like fresher software, but will the system be ok? I don't really have any experience with backports, so realise this is probably a very daft question, but if I'm going to cause myself problems I'd rather resolve it now.
probably OK, but if sometime in the future you get an update holding back packages, you'll probably need something out of backports again.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

I don't think "Update all upgradable" is available in the Backport tab and when you switch back to "All enabled" it should turn off Backport and MX Test.

There was a reason to have an entry within MXPI->populare apps->Office-> Libreoffce (backports).
That's the easiest way to upgrade to the backports version.
If you would also have already installed libreoffice-kf5 before the upgrade to backports,
all what you have todo is just select "Libreoffce (backports)" and click install,
all needed package will be fetched from backports repo. I think even any LO language packs,
in case you installed any already.

I'm sure it will be fine. If not, I'll timeshift it.

Thanks for the replies.
