Did you manage to resolve your freezing issues? Mine just made a comeback, *sigh*
Anyway, I am going all in for an MX Update to hopefully fix that...In the meantime, just can log out. Shutting down pretty much works for my needs.

@mxxm TBH I haven't looked at it at all yet! lol
I will need to reboot soon though, updates are starting to queue up. I was hoping maybe we'd see an update for SDDM. I'll be sure to return here once I get around to messing with it. Probably this weekend.

Re: System booting to CLI or black screen after update
Well I rebooted and messed with SDDM a little, tried messing with themes and that "Apply Plasma settings" button. No impact though.
I might just tolerate it for a while. After an initial MX animation it goes back to text mode, and after a slight (annoying) delay of maybe 30-60 seconds, I get a CLI login prompt. With a login there and "startx" later, everything goes forward as usual.
The delay is a nuisance but CLI doesn't bother me, so I guess it's not a big deal. Maybe I'll investigate further when I'm more in the mood to break stuff.

Hmm, I have an idea.. what if I try switching to LightDM? Bad idea?
Re: System booting to CLI or black screen after update
A few days ago I had the same thing happening on a old Acer Aspire laptop, MX-23 KDE. The laptop refused to post yesterday. I think the RAM went bad after 17 years. Didn't have any on hand so I ordered 2 GB. Won't be here for a few days.louhy wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2024 12:56 am Well I rebooted and messed with SDDM a little, tried messing with themes and that "Apply Plasma settings" button. If I get it running, I'll be back.
Haven't had the sddm problem on my newer Dell Laptop running MX-23 KDE.
calm down.... it's only ones and zeroes...

In case anyone is interested...
It was the RAM. Laptop is running fine now but I never figured out the problem with sddm. I had a snapshot less than 2 weeks old so I re-installed. All is good now.
